Seaplane Down in the East River

Poor caravan, airplane rule #1, keep anyone who says they're trying to help AWAY from the plane

Intresting, the passengers onboard state that the airplane had trouble taking off, came back down, hit hard and the float (pontoon) broke. The video from the news station folks said it was an emergency landing due to a possible engine failure. Gotta love the media.

Probably like the murky TN river and people actually eat the fish that come out of it.

I usually only do a pre-cautionary landing when I lose an engine on a single engine plane.....:lol:

From the description, it sounds sort of like an over gross takeoff attempt in choppy water.
Or overweight on a hot day it has been extremely warm up there according to weather ch.

I'm not sure there is anything alive in the East River.

Tell that to the fishermen who can be seen in all but the worst wx fishing in the East and Harlem rivers.

If you're experience with these waters is from the 1970s yes it has improved considerably. Salmon are back in the Hudson!

The day I see "Hudson River Salmon" on the menu is the day I switch to high wing. In other words, it ain't gonna happen.

I would not eat it/them either. But they are there, and several years ago they weren't.

This is exactly what I was thinking of.

Certainly not the objects rolled up in rugs and weighed down with chains. Those are (usually) dead before submerged. :D

I will be flying the Hudson river corridor in a few weeks. I will be donning my self-inflating life-vest and definitely be on the lookout for Sully's spot. :)

A 135 operation made 3 takeoff attempts? Yikes.

I take all my visitors (who aren't terrified of getting in a plane) on the "Corridor Tour". It's the best show around. I usually fly at 800'.
Next best is go north past West Point. Veterans love that.
The most often asked question from passengers, by far:
1. Is this even legal?
(Usually as we pop up to avoid the GW Bridge tower.)

Have fun.

And never filed a flight plan. When will these pilots learn...

NTSB Final Report:
Aircraft damaged after pilot failed to file a flight plan. Contributing factors were (in order): failure to lean forward, lack of an AOA indicator, incorrect hot start procedure, pilots preference for low wing vs high wing, pre-occupation flying the Ipad first, wasted time looking for the BRS handle for parachute and failure to announce ATITPPA.:confused::eek::eek::D:D:D

You forgot, "And the Board determined that it wasn't as safe as a Cirrus with a pilot taught by a CSIP." :P :P :P
