Preflight Animal Sacrifice

Well it is wonderful to see we have come so far from that barbaric throw-the-virgin-into-the volcano nonsense of yesteryear. This seems so much more...professional.

Well, that sure is a lot of judgment of others' culture.

Ask yourself this -- why do you care?

I really don't see any harm done. No good either, but there really are a lot of traditions that qualify for that.

Some people seem to need a reminder that there is more than one culture in the world.

Agreed. My company does business with the Pakistan gov't, and have gotten to know a handful of Pakistani's. Interesting culture we are getting to know. Our owner and another employee just got back from a trip over there, and they both flew domestic legs on PIA.

That being said, this doesn't sound like a tradition, like breaking a bottle of champagne over the bow of a ship when it is launched. The suggestion didn't come from an imam, it came from the PIA director of engineering. The article at the main link says "The Director of Engineering at PIA suggested that a goat be sacrificed before the first flight took off, according to GeoTV." At the secondary link it says "It was learnt that Director Engineering advised to give sacrifice of a black goat after a complete examination of the ATR plane took place."

It's interesting that a predominantly Muslim country would practice Santeria, a religion rooted in Christianity.

Animal sacrifice isn't limited to Santeria. Islam also involves animal sacrifice, specificqally goats and lambs in the hajj and larger animals (cows, camels) at certain times of the year (such as Eid al-Adha). Certain Hindu sects practice it as well.

It's also in the Bible, though those sacrifices tend to be about sheep rather than goats.

Taking folks whos minds are in still 200 years in the past and putting them at the helm of technologically advanced aircraft.....lawn darts

Jose Conseco is inconsolable over the loss.

Hmph I flew the ATR72 and we didn't slaughter no goat, passengers maybe. ;):D

Some could argue the practice of half-drowning babies during baptism are beliefs held by those 200 years in the past...

Just because your religion is mainstream doesn't make it any more right or wrong than another(well, MOST others).

no, that's stupid too, dumping your offspring in water is about as effective as hanging a rabbits foot from your rear view mirror.

outside of Buddhism, native americans, and a few other, religion is more trouble than its worth.

but.... some are more trouble than others, and some countries have populations which are more religiously nutty than others, example, you can be a openly gay person or a woman in a miniskirt and tank top, walk around in the US, Canada, Auzzy land, most places in Europe (outside of some places in Germany with huge migrant problems) and youll be just fine.

Try that over in super muslim land, yeah...

Wow. Have you ever actually watched an infant baptism?

I agree with this part, but in a vain attempt to keep this thread from getting too derailed I'm going to not respond to the rest.

Your initial was sort of like saying "So's crashing to death in flaming deathtraps" to say flying in small airplanes. The overwhelming majority of infant baptisms are a few drops of water on their heads. And how does "Pastor electrocuted during baptism" have anything to do with half drowning babies?

It's called waterboarding these days. Start 'em young, I say! :)

Yup, those that judge others without understanding are definitely less equal.

So long as that other culture does not threaten my way of life or try to cause me or mine harm, OR TRY TO CHANGE MY CULTURE, I agree

and they have never judged us, we all know that.

The people who did that sacrifice?

No, I feel rather confident that those particular people have not judged me personally. Nor you. Yet, you have judged them.

So, exactly what threat are you responding to?

Well certainly the three religions that sprung up in the same armpit of the world and which seem to always be at odds with one another while sharing a supposed common history are without a doubt the most ridiculous and harmful of all the world's religions but I would argue that there is not any religion worth observing.

Why's the goat have to be black??? SJW Unit!!!

Serious question... if you sacrifice a goat then what do you do with said goat? Can it be cooked/eaten? I mean... that just seems like the sensible thing to do. How do you cook goat anyway? Anyone know a good recipe... it's just such an unusual thing here in the US I'm not sure how to prepare it. I like kebab... and I know it's in a lot of Indian food.

....... I'm thinking about getting goats.

Ops...your California is showing..aren't you judging others when you judge others judging ...others.

That's OK, just like the liberal Democrats, he is judging us from a superior position. Same way he decides that sacrificing an animal during preflight is acceptable and will help complete the flight safely. Just don't mention Jesus, that will be judged unacceptable.

Works best in different stews with tomatos and peppers. Younger and female goats are better, older ones can be a bit tough. Males taste kind of gamey.
Find a supermarket that caters to Latinos, they'll have your goat. Or specialty butchers.

Wow, you didn't even read my post, did you?

If you can't see the difference between racism and culture, there is no possible way you could understand.

Modern or old definition?

Racism

Old
"I hate black/white/yellow people"

New
"Your kid isn't fat because of the genes, he's fat because you feed him too much cake"

"You're a racist!"

Culture

Old
"The French culture has some excellent cuisine"

New
"Don't judge that guy for carrying out a forced female genital mutilation on his 12yr old daughter, or stoning his neighbor after finding out he was gay, that's just his culture."

What do you think?

Those are some pretty impressive straw men.
