Pilot's Roadrage

We live in a very violent society, I don't see these levels of violence and aggression in any other developed society. The only place it's worse is in Africa.

And you would help the situation how?

Oh yes...see below...
See, that is the reason I don't conceal carry, I would have put a double tap at his forehead.

The actions of society consist of the actions of many individuals. Don't contribute to the violence and the violence will decrease.

Right, but you have to do that with the entire society, yet our media and culture project violence as the end cure to all issues. I am as subject to brainwashing as anyone and our society is continuously inundated with violence from the good guys as well as the bad. Violence is an accepted way for our culture to handle dispute. Even if we do pay lip service to 'peaceful resolutions' as a society we sit back and say '*****' to anyone who actually believes it and acts upon it; then we shoot them like Dr ML King Jr.

Actually, Question: Any 5'2" Aveo driving 172 pilots based out of KGAI on this forum to anyone's knowledge?

I wouldn't have the foggiest clue where KGAI was unless I Googled it, but why don't you tell us the tail number of the 172 so we can google that instead? :D

Just sounds like an excuse/justification to me. I disagree that violance is accepted way to handle dispute. If it were accepted, the police would have an easier time of it. There would be no such thang as "assault"

I'll repeat it- the actions of society are those of individuals. While you can't change everyone, you can manage yourself and influence some of those around you. You fed into that with your "double tap" comment

Naive to say the least.
It is at least an additive function. Each person that uses violence in a dispute contributes to a violent society. Every individual that desists contributes to a less violent one. It's simple math.

:confused::confused: What am I excusing or justifying? I accept myself for my failings as well as attributes; I embrace my inner evil.;) I have no need for an excuse for the attributes of human nature.

However you will note by my history of actions and the fact that I own but rarely if ever carry says a bit about my ability to also control that. As you said, it's up to the choices that we make, not the choices we understand we have.;):yesnod:

While I agree with your sentiment, this is NOT simple math because you're ignoring the potential for the violence of others to increase when some individuals decrease their own contribution.

Right!!! Exactly correct, question is, why? The answer is overpopulation; the Earth can really only support 1BB people comfortably; with technology fully put to best use everywhere in a single language global social structure, 3BB. What we feel is the downward spiraling effect of population pressure/resource.

And that's why I said "at least an additive function". I'm trying to keep it simple.

Nope. This was a violent society when we had wide-open spaces and those that lived here previously were decimated by disease brought from Europe. We were violent to the natives and each other.

Still more Phillies fans in that park however.

Most of the ones sitting around me (in right field seats) cleared out after the Werth Homer. A couple managed to get themselves ejected for throwing stuff on the field.

I'd put the crowd at 60% Nats, 40% Philly. Methinks it's turned into a rivalry.

Now we'll have to see if it gets to be Caps vs Flyers in the playoffs.

Yes, the propensity for violence has always been there, it is a basic human characteristic, an evolutionary survival trait. As long as there is pressure of expansion there will be violence. Thing is we've started to run out of viable horizontal living space. We need to go more vertical and maybe use hydroponic levels as CO2 scrubbers/filters as well as indoor gardens.

The pressure is increasing world wide, it's not getting better.

It is basic human (well, mammalian)nature to be territorial and aggressive to outsiders. Even if magically the world turned into 50 stories of living space everywhere, and the population shrunk to .1 of what it is now, there will still be conflict.

What you do all depends on how good a witness your Mom is, and how much time you wish to spend. If it really did go down as you describe, he will be forced to submit a psychiatric evaluation, even if he doesn't have to plead to Assault.

I now have a dash cam. How am I ever going to prove the other guy, who claims I hit him, actually hit me?

What has all of this to do with our society, violence, and whether you could make a difference in the society? I merely indicated that the violence doesn't have anything to do with shortages.

Here in Texas throwing a bottle at a car will get you shot.

Did you pull out in front of the guy or something? I know he probably p---d you off but I would just let it go. Don't draw attention [from the FAA] to you or your airport. The last thing you want is them doing ramp checks over there.

No, conflict comes from pressure on resource and greed. Granted, all faults in the nature of humanity, nothing to be done except to protect ourselves from the results, same as climate change.

5' 2". Driving that car. And he probably forgot his booster seat for the plane. I'd be ticked off too!! You should have asked him if he was going to practice his short field technique.

Well if I shoot and kill someone in order for myself to survive, I ensure my assailant doesn't live to see another day/another victim.

Not saying the Aveo driver deserved to be shot. He probably just deserves to get his ass kicked. :)

Unfortunately, there are some people that "just need killin' ". One should be very sure that survival is at stake before giving Henning's "double tap". Most situations, including this one, don't rise to that level.

Sometimes that works, more often it doesn't. Most of these nuts don't realize they are in the wrong or are behaving inappropriately.

He's a small man in a small car. One day he'll flip off the wrong person and get his a$$ kicked.

When I was at Osan Korea, in the 1970's, I was impressed by how crazy the cab drivers were; yet when they pulled up behind you, when you were stopped, at night, they'd turn off their head lights so as not to blind you. Those folks were very courteous to each other, especially their elders. Very nice culture over there (back then).

Funny thread. That lilliputian would have looked funny with his head stuck in the tailpipe.

I find most Asian culture like that. They have been dealing with population density much longer than we have and took a different course with respect to treating others. There is very little courtesy or respect in America even though it will get you through most everywhere; kinda funny really.

There's a lot of courtesy in America. I'm head nodding strangers and holding doors and saying, "thank you sir" all day long.

Listen to liveATC for 30 minutes and count all the 'thank yous', and 'sir / mam's'. I don't think you'll find that in the AIM, but it gets said out of courtesy. Are there folks that throw bottles and jump on hoods? Sure, but by and large we're pretty civil to one another.

There might be a lot of courtesy in America but there sure as hell isn't nearly as much as there is in other parts of the world. Americans, on average, are the rudest and most unempathetic culture on the planet.

The problem with the gene pool is that there isn't enough lifeguards.

I know I'm late to this thread, but this guy in the Aveo sounds like a turd. I could understand him getting mad for the OP pulling in front of him. However, if you were simply minding your own business on a two lane road where there is ample passing room and he decides to tailgate you, then he is a jerk.

Usually when people ride that close to me, I wave/signal to go around/otherwise alert the driver of their proximity. People don't respect it, but I try. I do not "brake check" people. That's an excellent way to cause an accident and possibly hurt someone. On the other hand, I will push the pedal to where the brake lights click on and maintain my speed. If that doesn't work, I usually pull over when practicable (heh).

If someone was acting like he was, I would have probably considered calling the cops while he was doing these actions and noting his license plate number. May not have gotten me far, but it gets the word out there. I'm wary of crazies because in states like NC, the test for the concealed carry permit is laughably easy, i.e. anybody can score a permit. On the other hand, I wish MD was a little less strict so I could exercise the same privilege I had in NC...

You can look at it that way also.

Dude,
He flies a Cessna 172, of course he is ****ed off!!! He wouldn't be like that if he could afford a real airplane!

Different strokes for different folks. I find that flying a 172 relieves stress.
