Pilot's festive flight path reveals Christmas tree over Central Florida

Seems like a lot of effort for something I can just draw on my ipad.

People do funny things to build time. Got his 15 minutes of fame.

Hand flying that would be impressive. Babysitting a GFC500, not so much. Even more impressive would be doing it solely by pilotage. Epic would be doing it under the hood ded reckoning.

Now, about that track log on FlightAware...

4.5 hrs in a 172?
According to the news source: "Mitich took off at 8:30 p.m. Dec. 18 and flew at speeds between 100 and 120 miles per hour. The trip in his C172 Cessna Skyhawk took about five hours...Mitich said he only used about a half-tank of gas for the trip".

Must be one of those alternate fuel/alternate engine 172s we hear about.

I think a constant in life is that reporters never get anything right. Ever.

I used to write "HI" for the radar guys back before there was GPS.

That took a good 15 minutes in a 100mph airplane!
