Got Covid, again. Doc prescribed Paxlovid. Anyone here used it before? What was your experience with it?

I have. Only annoying thing was the bitter taste was pretty bad for a few days. I rebounded a few days after testing negative which can be common with paxlovid. Better some bitter taste and extra isolation than loss of taste/smell and brain fog IMO, especially for extended periods of time or even permanently for those who develop long covid. If I got covid for a second round I wouldn’t hesitate to use it again.

No first hand experience, but my dad came home from vacation a couple years ago bearing the gift of covid. He was a drooling zombie from the fever. Paxlovid knocked it out after a day.

Last January after a commercial flight, symptoms were what you'd see with a bad cold but the covid test indicated covid. Stopped in to see my GP. He said it wasn't a sufficiently bad case, and in my case, to avoid paxlovid. I have Type 2 diabetes, that might have been a contributing factor to avoid it.

How do you know it would not have gone away by itself without Paxlovid after a day?

I took it several years ago. Metallic taste, no idea if it did anything as I had no baseline for Covid progression without it. Symptoms resolved in about 24 hours after taking it, but again no idea if there was a cause/effect relationship.

I have and hated it (67). Be prepared for a metallic taste, diarrhea, and stomach issues. I’m not sure it helped much. Virus ran its course in about 1-2 days, but the meds had to be taken for 5 days. Next time, I’ll go without. Only took it because wife was getting knee replacement surgery in 10.

Took it and got paxlovid reflux and Covid. I also get a reaction whenever I get a Covid shot.

It works fast. I had the metallic taste, which might be related to Zinc deficiency, which I found out later I had. I consumed unethical amounts of cinnamon gum to conceal the taste, and was left with a cinnamon sensitivity.

I started the regiment the first day I tested positive. My first bout with Covid, at age 75, put me on my back in bed for two days. But on the third day I was outside on my lawn tractor mowing our yard and our neighbor’s yard. The only thing I didn’t care for was the nasty “old copper penny” taste in my mouth. If I get COVID again I will definitely use Paxlovid again.
