I am interested in moving from a 141 program to a 61 flight training program in Chicago. I have a PPL and am going to start the instrument course.

My concern is the weather.

I know that if I don't finish certification, I lose the hours in a 141 program.

If I train via 61, and I need to travel to Florida in order to get more hours, will this be a problem? Is it possible to go to a school in Chicago and then get additional hours in a warmer climate during cold months?

In addition, any recommendations for schools 30 minutes from the city will be greatly appreciated.

Don't they have a good school or two at KDPA? That would be out in the burbs.

There is plenty of good weather in the Chicago area. Yeah, it gets cold in the winter but the number of VFR days isn't too low.
