Does anyone have a paint shop in NC/SC/GA that actually wants some business? I can't get a single shop to call me back, let alone a quote via email. I'm looking to get my 172 repainted white with some colored decals, nothing special. Any recommendations would be appreciated!

My club is getting our NC based 172 painted this year at a place in Pennsylvania. I'll get you the name. We labored over the decision for a long time. This place offered the best combo of reputation, cost (23K) and availability.

Smoketown, PA is the shop that lots of people use and they do good work.

I had my Navion painted by a homeless guy who moved into my hangar for a while. It's a real nice job, but I'd not recommend that.

Just out of curiosity what are they giving you with that?

What about touching up the leading edge? Basically on the pilot side wing and horizontal stabilizer.

It was until it got time to get him to move along. The guy was strange. If he had an ounce of ambition he'd be making a ton of money. His work is perfect. He also got my rototiller that I've not used in years running so he could get it out of the way of his operation. Did some work on my air compressor and other stuff as well. He was dumped on me by one of the other airpark owners and I dispatched him to yet another who finally ran him off the field.

Hi! I know there have been no replies in this thread for a while.

I just had my RV7 aircraft painted in the Atlanta area by someone who had previously only done cars. I am an A&P and my aircraft was disassembled when they painted it in their inflatable paint booths.

They gave me a very reasonable price, and did a really good job They are very interested in doing it again. They asked me about finding a hangar for 5 days for their next job. They plan on taping the walls and floors up beforehand and removing everything when done.

Anybody know where a hangar could be had?

They are also looking into the possibility of buying or building if they get spaceIMG_8852.jpegIMG_8857.jpeg

That might be hard. Hangars are hard to find, and those with leases probably have prohibitions against sub leasing, let alone painting.

Probably lease land and build a building. That’s a lot of capital.

They are better off staying where they are as dealing with airport management for such an operation doesnt make it worth it in a number of areas. You could also look for a private strip with hangars which would work better. Perhaps you can team up with them since you are an A&P and can disassemble the aircraft and reweigh them once finished. The last 4 aircraft I was involved with all were painted at a local auto shop at a very reasonable price. Unfortunately that doesn't always work for everyone.

I rent a t hangar from a privately owned airport. Painting is strictly prohibited in the lease.

My cousin's husband owns a body shop and he does a lot of boats and kind of likes the weird projects. Did the auto shop strip it down?

I’m going here later this year. My experience dealing with them so far has been very professional and so many people have used them to have their plane painted in the northeast and not a single had a bad thing to say so far

Joe DeRosa, 275 Pethel Rd, China Grove, NC 28203. Last I knew, he was working at SouthTecAviation, KRUQ (Mid-Carolina Regional, Salisbury) but SouthTec has a new owner. He does beautiful work and has painted some nice Vans RVs. Seven oh four eight eight zero six two three eight

Kendall is a good dude. They've done a couple annuals and some other work for me and I'm going back for another annual in March.
