Online Flight Review Course

A CFI should give you an endorsement stating you completed the 1 hour flight instruction / evaluation required for a flight review and advise you to have Sporty’s provide the flight review completion endorsement after you complete their ground course.

Flight training is an important part of their business and they have plenty of CFIs on staff.
If I’m doing a “split” flight review endorsement I want to see the ground endorsement before I do the flight. My reason is timing. As I read the read, it’s “satisfactorily completed” the flight review that restarts the clock. I don’t want to sign off on the flight portion of a flight review that will be completed, say 6 months from now.

(That can happen with Wings too, but I’m not bothered by that)

As far as the FAA is concerned, the ground and the flight training must occur within the specified period - the beginning of the 24th calendar month before the month in which that pilot acts as PIC.

The satisfactory completion determination is made when the applicant demonstrates both the applicable pilot knowledge and pilot skills to the CFI making the flight review completion endorsement.

If the fact a person watched self study videos and scored 80% on a test were proof of satisfactory completion, no one would ever fail a practical test in oral portion over simple stuff.

Regardless of what Sporty’s says, the applicant still needs to do ground with the dude signing off the flight review so they can do a proper evaluation.

Apparently the FAA disagrees, or they'd be cracking down on pilots with incomplete flight reviews.

My CFI wanted a copy of the certificate I got after completing the course (from Pilot Proficient, not Sporty's).

The certificate says:

"I certify that so-and-so has satisfactorily completed the ground instruction of § 61.56(a) on October 20, 2024 toward a Flight Review.

Ground Knowledge Areas Covered:
Review of selected Federal Aviation Regulations of 14 CFR Part 91
Airport Signs & Markings
Weather Reports & Forecasts
Airspace
Aeronautical Decision Making
Aviation Safety Reporting System (ASRS)
Tips & Tricks"

At the bottom is the CFI's name, signature, certificate number, and date.

Which three ground courses? What's involved in having the FAA Administrator issue the endorsement?
As stated in #25 for recommended courses. A little research on Wings and it will let you know that certain courses are needed in different areas of study.

An instructor that flies with you only needs to certify on Wings that the appropriate flight activities were completed. There are course numbers for those events. The system then automatically issues the 61.56 Flight Review completion per 61.56(e).

I just did my BFR literally yesterday. My approach? A few days before, I pulled the Pilot's Handbook and FAR/AIM off the shelf with all of my notes, tabs, high lights, etc. Spent a few hours reading those again, and then pulled Aviation Weather Handbook off the shelf and re read that.

Took those books, a few pages of notes, and a small foam airplane model to the BFR.

Net Net, review the basics that you had to know for your PPL oral. At least that did the trick for me.
