Another new guy, just joined. While I am Canadian, that is in North America, so sort of America. The Canadian pilot forums are too underpopulated. Got my private and night ratings in 1999. Owned a few planes over the last 22 years, am currently shopping for my next aircraft, hence why i joined.

We like Canajuns here just fine! In fact, one of our most prolific posters (and the initiator of the longest, and longest-lived, thread on the board) is from “Canadia,” although he lives in deep west Texas, now.

So, tell us more! Where/what do you like to fly, and what sort of plane are you looking for?

Dish it! And, welcome to Pilots of America!

Welcome to the zoo Tyler! Don't feed the wild animals. ;)

I presume from your moniker you fly out of Kamloops?
Same question as the others...what sort of airplanes have you owned and what are you looking for now?
You're in some pretty nice floatplane and fly fishin' country in that part of B.C.

Lots of good flying in Canada. Don’t see what part. Hey, come to Oshkosh this year, as long as it’s on as usual.

Warm welcome from you all, thanks everyone.

Planes i have flown, some a bunch, some briefly, in no particular order. Piper Warrior, Cherokee 140, Cherokee six, Seneca ll and lll, Super Cub, Beech Bonanza 35 yes the old original V tail I loved it, A36, Baron, Duke, Navajo Chieftain, Cessna TTX, 152, 172, 180, 180 on floats, 182, 185 on floats, 206, and 206 on floats, 207, 210, three different Beavers on floats briefly with their owners OMG such cool planes, Cubcrafter EX2 yes a kit plane, Aviat Eagle ll the most fun plane I've ever flown, Maule M5 and M7, Mooney M20K, most of them were me flying briefly from the right seat with their generous owners who took me along, some I rented from schools or owners. Have owned 1/4 share in 152, half share in a 172, 1/3 share in a Cherokee six, all of a 210, half share in a Seneca lll. Should have kept my 210, but live and learn.

My ignorance of more modern planes is huge, especially the fancy new glass panels, but that is what I want to get. Yes I do plan to basically go back to school and learn about the new electronics when I buy something. Use will be flying about 50/50 for pleasure and business, could be alone, frequently with 1 passenger, occasionally with 4 of us total. Could be just local sight seeing, or frequently hops of 75 nm to 700 nm. I love flying at night, have since my first time doing a night training flight. Don't like to fly high, prefer more modest altitudes to be honest. I live in a mountainous area, but usually only climb a few thousand feet AGL. Nothing beats taking my sweetheart somewhere for a $400 hamburger. It needs to land and take off comfortably from 2,000' of runway, but it will usually be well under gross going into those shorter strips. I want something solid feeling when in IFR. My biggest question to start with is simple, why for a plane that hasn't been out very long, are there such a crazy amount of Cirrus for sale on the used market. Do people regret buying them for some reason after just a few years, some dump them? I was considering a SR22, maybe a Cessna TTX, something like that. But the SR22 makes me nervous ( never even sat in one just so you all know ) because the market seems flooded with used ones, and they have only been sold for 20 years. No I don't have a clue what to buy, that is primarily why I joined this forum. Officially in my log book are 3,873 hours, unofficially i probably have 200 more. Don't want a twin, turbines are out of my budget before someone says PC12 So help me out everybody. Has to be good IFR, able to carry up to 4 people, single piston, fly off a 2,000 foot strip occasionally, autopilot, fancy new electronics, comfortable to sit in for hours, cruise at 150 kts or more, and has good fuel range, because I don't want to stop for gas just to get somewhere only 500 nm away. It will spend 90% of its life flying between 4500' ASL and 9500' ASL so don't really need a turbo charger, as I am fine without a really quick climb rate at 8000'. Remember that I learned on 152, 172, Warriors, and anything else will be an improvement over those wheezing engines at 8'000. Would prefer modern, but used, some someone richer than I am ate at least that first years big hit in depreciation. Thanks Tyler

Been in kamloops since 2009, don't see myself moving from here anytime soon. I'm not very good at being whitty, or original, so instead of some ingenious name, went with the obvious YKA. When I am closer to retirement age, could definitely see myself buying something amphibious. Lakes and rivers abound, so amphibious would be ideal. Who knows what the future will bring, maybe by then someone is building a plane similar to that icon, but on steroids. Add 50 kts to its speed, and 300 nm to its fuel range, and I'll buy it. Cessna doesn't change a lot, so most likely is still building their 206 series in 15 years, that on Aerocets, would do anything I want.

Definitely try out a Cirrus SR22. Preferably a G3 or later non turbo in your case. The reason there are lots of them on the market is mostly because Cirrus has made a ton of them but also because they keep improving them and lots of owners upgrade multiple times. I’ve had two (a G2 NA and a G3 Turbo) but I know people on their 4th or 5th Cirrus. It’s good news for the used buyer.

Welcome aboard. Always want to fly into Kamloops for skiing but my Tiger really isn’t an ideal winter airplane. Maybe this summer if the Canada ever let US citizens back in.

I flew into Chilko Lake back in the late 80’s. It was a very memorable trip. I think that’s near your neighborhood. If you fly to AK, you’re already halfway(or more) there.

My Dad found he was on the wrong side from 1929 until 1957, my little sister ratted him out.
the troopers came and escorted him to the border. he got a green card and made it home for milking.

Years ago I went on a snowmobile ride with a group of friends in northwest BC. Found out that evening from the resort owner we has crossed the border into Alaska, we were all unaware of our blunder. He said not to worry, people do it all the time. We rode 4 days on that trip, crossing the border each day. Still wonder what would have been the consequences if we got caught.

Yes, it is a kit plane.
I have an RV-9, which is also a kit plane.
There is a decent secondary market for these.
    You don’t have to build.
    Buy one already built!

Best bang for the buck, hands down.
