Who's "they?" How could those of us who voted in every election have changed the outcome? If there's any left for your generation of whiners, are you going to take it or tell them to save it for the next generation?

But whatever you do, don't quit working. We're counting on you.

Ahh yes, but the fully funded system to pay for their retirement was raided by them sticking their fingers in their own cookie jar. Somehow the rest of us aren't amused at their current whining that they spent all of it.

Then why do they call them lame ducks?

Lame duck Presidents are often more effective in office because there's nothing at stake but their place in history. Nothing motivates a Politician like the opportunity to build his or her legacy.

If a Politician with a re-election objective was too forward thinking, "taking one for the team" could be misconstrued as suspiciously unambitious.

That's an amazing work of art, even if the flag isn't accurate.

Then why do they call them lame ducks?

From Wikipedia.org:

Lame duck officials tend to have less political power, as other elected officials are less inclined to cooperate with them. However, lame ducks are also in the peculiar position of not facing the consequences of their actions in a subsequent election, giving them greater freedom to issue unpopular decisions or appointments.

Correction. Lame duck Presidents have more freedom to act. That's certainly different from being more effective.

we started raiding the trust to pay for Defense programs under Reagan.

As a technical correction, this started under Johnson for different reasons and has continued since under the leadership of both sides.

Facts, like aviation checklists, are good things. You should use them.

This is one of the best arguments against term limits that I've seen.
