Geez, we are airmen, who are trained to act quickly and logically in the face of any obstacle thrown at us.....

Maybe so however how do you decide which is the best situation when the options are:
1. Crash into a mountain and die a horrific burning painful death.
and
2. Crash into the ground and die a horrific burning painful death.

Bill The Cat For President
And Senate...
And Congress...
And the Gustappo...
And anything else he wants to do...
Simply because he's obviously violently ill and doesn't mind everyone knowing it.

Dunno, but more and more single-issue house seats are being created every time they reapportion the districts.

I'm more interested in knowing how many single issue voters there are.

What's best for the country based on what? You can justify either side if you need to. Most votes aren't altruistic, they're self serving.

How about voting for what is best for the country? :dunno:

I'm voting selfishly - my fear is that if Obama gets re-elected, I won't be able to fly anymore at all. I could easily do it 4 years ago...now I'm struggling just to keep up with normal bills and flying is once a month at best. If the next four years are like the past four years, flying will be long gone as will several other nice things.

Well Romney wins in a landslide. :D

Thanks to all those who vote.

Thanks POA Management for allowing the thread to continue. The results were very very interesting IMHO.

Agreed..... With a 16+ TRILLION dollar debt that is headed to 20 TRILLION, no matter who is running the show, the upcoming generation of Americans are going to experience that ending..:yikes::(

I think this is the big issue that many voters miss. The "ask not what your country can do for you" bit.

Agreed..... With a 16+ TRILLION dollar debt that is headed to 20 TRILLION, no matter who is the lightning rod on the top of the building, the upcoming generation of Americans are going to experience that ending..:yikes::(

Fixed.

It's not about the money at all. It's about them being lying deceiving self centered little crybaby snots who do not do what they tell you they're going to do. If they can't do it, and they know they can't do it from the start, they should be upfront and honest about it instead of lying to your face. ..and people buy into that nonsense like it's something to be respected and honorable... It's B.F.S.

No truth telling Politician will EVER be elected President. They either think they can do what they say until they're sworn in and "briefed" by the people who actually run the country, or they lie to get in.

Americans don't want the truth, they want hope, even if its false.

It certainly shows that the membership of this forum is very unrepresentative of the general populace with respect to politics. As far as I can tell from the pollsters, the probability is allegedly high that for at least the next two to four years the makeup of the congressional and legislative branches will be same as the last two years.

But voting for what is best for the country is self-serving... think about it.

Long-term, yes. But most people can't see more than 2 feet in front of their face.

Is that surprising?

I think what is really telling in this election, is that the deficit isn't really a big issue for most voters, I think the poll I saw was 10-15% said it was a MAJOR issue in choosing who to vote for.
I wonder if we, as Americans, have become so used to the talk of the national debt, that we ignore it like a car alarm at the neighbor's house? :mad2:

What's unfortunate about that is our elected officials (who are conceivably more in tune with the enormity of the issue than the average Joe) won't have any incentive to really address the issue until they feel its a topic important to their consituents. Regardless of what it does for the country 10, 20 or 30 years down the line, the issue will pale in comparison with what is hot in the next 2 years.

This is both the positive and negative of our government. Yes, the elected officials are typically trying to do what their constituents want. The problem is that the constituents won't listen to them when they say "Hey, this is bad. We need to fix it."

The national debt, unfortunately is perceived by most Americans as the cost of doing business.

All of us 55+ year old Americans might get out of this mess without major damage...:dunno:..

You young kids are TOAST.!!!!!!!!!!!...:sad::sad:

Goes to show that PoAers are not your average voters.

The debt is because of the retirement en masse of the Baby Boomers. It will last until the majority of them are dead. That's just the price you pay for a population boom. Obama didn't create it, nor did his predecessor. It really isn't anyone's fault, per se. Our system of government rarely sees past the next election. As such our leaders had no incentive to look ten or twenty years down the road to fix an impending problem.

I think it's simpler than that. The perks of being reelected are much more important to them than the inconsequential future of the country. How many of those folks to you ever see "taking one for the team?"

Lame duck Presidents are often more effective in office because there's nothing at stake but their place in history. Nothing motivates a Politician like the opportunity to build his or her legacy.

If a Politician with a re-election objective was too forward thinking, "taking one for the team" could be misconstrued as suspiciously unambitious.

Why wouldn't they simply not vote in the poll then? :dunno:

I think it's a good stat but mostly misinterpreted.

The number of people not having/offering an opinion is just as valuable a stat, as those who fall into the "Strongly Support/Disagree category.

Ahh yes, but the fully funded system to pay for their retirement was raided by them sticking their fingers in their own cookie jar. Somehow the rest of us aren't amused at their current whining that they spent all of it.

Doesn't matter at all. The system was set up for more payers than receivers, it made sense when it was put together. Now there are more receivers. Paying them less is political anathema, they make a large and very powerful voting block. Taxing the rest of us more is similarly political anathema, no one will do it. So we push the problem off and go a bit deeper into hock.

The good news is that eventually it will go away. Like I said, if we can keep things together until they do we could get a soft landing out of all this. If we go to pieces not so much.

Right, but this was considered which is why they used a SS Trust system to make sure it would manage to grow through investment in order to to match pace with population growth. Problem is we started raiding the trust to pay for Defense programs under Reagan and raped it dry.

That's the piggy bank I was saying they raided. And it was a bi-partisan raid over significant time. No one my age was even old enough to vote during that timeframe, so I know I didn't vote for 'em.
