new pilot request help

Great experience. People wonder why us old farts think new pilots should do a few real long XCs VFR. Tunes you into weather like nothing else does.

Even IFR. As part of my instrument training, I flew from San Diego to Chicago and back, with my CFII, in a NA Arrow II. Lots of weather to get around and decisions to make along the way. It was absolutely fascinating. Traveling across this continent, with all the climate changes, is something pretty incredible.

Well he's made it into Arizona! Making good progress today.

I should see him soon then. If he's 1200 all I will see is his altitude and velocity.

If he's going N out of Wilcox I'll never see him. He must be flying towards the Phoenix area.

He was basically following the road (RT10)

Can't hear him but I heard ABQ center's response to him. Still not on the scope.

You guys show him still airborne? He's either ridiculously slow or landed at Wilcox or Benson for fuel.

Also, CNM is great, was there two days this week, but don’t plan on going direct to El Paso, plan on passing over the highway south of Guadalupe Peak where we were on Tuesday. Guadalupe Peak is tall for the area and I would choose to pass south of it.

1. Chandler is a great FBO, HUGE assortment of taxidermy upstairs if they'll let you up there. I've gone there A LOT, but was told a couple of weeks ago I going to get relegated to outside tie down even if storms approached as "oil field" aircraft get first priority.:(

2. Pecos-El Paso direct is best. No fuel at Van Horn (KVHN). Direct line from Pecos (KPEQ) to EL Paso (KELP) isn't as bad as flying Van horn direct or near Guadalupe Peak after Carlsbad NM as turbulence is higher in those areas.

3. IFR (I fly roads) from Pecos you can pick either of two WIDE gas roads as emergency options that are El Paso to Pecos direct, rather than adding an out of the way waypoint (Peter I think had Pecos and Van Horn as waypoints). There are several runways which are NOT on the sectional on this line of flight if needed in an emergency ...

I see, no wonder I didn't see him, he's NE of me then. Must have wanted to see some mountains.

Looks like he was flying IFR[1] today.

[1] I Follow Roads, he was tracing the path of I-10

I thought he was going to swing WSW toward P33/Cochise County via I-10 based on the last position report on FlightAware.

Looks like he’s closer than that and moving along well. If things fall in place he might sleep in his own bed tonight.

Hey folks,
What a day today! Starting off, I primed too much fuel (3-4pumps) which cause a little fire that melted the filter! https://imgur.com/d1jpj4J
There also bit fuel that burn paint off the nose-wheel paints! I asked the FBO manager if there's any AP here; he said his AP comes from Florida!
I thought I was grounded but I called an AP I met at Pecos, TX. He had fixed my landing lights few days ago by showing me how to remove the cowling.
He told me now to remove the top and bottom cowling and check for damaged hoses, wires, etc. I checked best I could. And found no damaged wires or hoses.

He told me to start the engine and run it; I did and it ran fine for 10min!
I put the cowling back on then took off. Then at P99 Cochise airport I got replacement part;

I continued on and now at KBXK; one more leg to CA and 2 more legs to Corona!
Note to self: do NOT prime more then once in mornings!
What type fire-extinguisher do I need get?

I rarely prime my O200 at all. It has an accelerator pump. If it’s cold weather. I stroke the throttle once, push full rich and it lights off. Tom showed me to pull the primer out, let it fill, then turn the starter while pushing in the primer. Whichever works without introducing too much gas. Start it with as little fuel as possible because excessive fuel washes oil off of the cylinder walls during a cold start.

All that you dealt with today was just more of the learning experience.

It looks good under the cowl. Looks it has a Zeftronics regulator. That’s a good mod. If you ever have charging system problems google up the part number n the regulator and get the troubleshooting instructions. The Zeftronics has indicators that will allow you to trouble shoot the charging system. It also does away with the relay contacts of the old regulator making for a cleaner radio signal.

Looks like about three hours home. After you’re flying up to now, you can do that in your sleep. Do it while awake though.:D

Whoa. Yeah be careful over priming. That could have ended worse.

Welcome home. I don’t think you’ll ever forget this trip!

Years from now, we'll still be singing around the campfire the tale of Peter Ha, Fuel-master, Storm-dodger, Conquerer of Headwinds, and Tamer of Fire.
Thanks for kinds words but I wasn’t has brave as I wished. There were times I was honestly terrified. Like today when I had to cross a mountain range in New Mexico; I got warning from Foreflight saying "WARNING! SINK RATE! 500 AGL
Then there's stupid mistake I made at A39 when I was making left turn on runway that was RIGHT traffic!

Well, here's me at final stop in KBXK before I cross CA tomorrow.

Thanks everyone for your advise and encouragements!

Many of us have made those mistakes before. Learn from them and don't make them again - if you can help it! A little bit of healthy, respectful fear is actually a good thing.

Great picture Peter! Now, before you go home, go back to Bonham and get one like that at Jones Field. Oh, that’s okay. You can go on home.

This has been a great adventure. You’re almost home! You’re doing great!

Peter! You're a couple of weeks too early for the Copperstate Fly-In! . https://www.copperstate.org/

You made tremendous progress today to make it to the west side of Phoenix! Very well done! You're learning a lot about flying and about your plane by doing this cross country! Looking forward to reading about your journey into California and then home!

Hey folks,
Can someone with Cessna 150M share their Foreflight W/B setting (forward/aft CG limits)?
Mine seems it off, says "Zero Fuel CG Caution"

Anyone know how I can repair this burned front cowling from yesterday? :(

Also, which fire extinguisher is best on C150? And where/how do you mount it?
