I have something better. When my father-in-law passed, the fact that he did wasn't noticed for several days. They came to get him and brought two body bags. I don't know why they thought they needed to actually carry both into the house, but they did.

They left the, uh, empty one. The body bag that they did not put a body in, was left behind.

We called and told them, so they could return to get it. They said would not be coming back for it, and to throw it away, or whatever. Whatever became putting it on the closest shelf and bringing it out when the first kid comes to pick up my niece.

Any hammer fired semi-auto will do. After a dinner table cleaning session, let the slide snap forward with a clang, and the hammer fall with a satisfying ping.

First choice is the traditional pump-action 12ga. Second choice was definitely a blunderbuss, and I'm glad to see I was not the first one with that thought.

I have a good friend who is a living legend in Army Special Ops. Long career, saw combat in dozens of places. Highlights:

- On the ground in Iran for Operation EAGLE CLAW.
- Won a Silver Star for a firefight at Panmunjom, Korea in 1984 during a peacetime border incursion.
- Wounded in the forehead during the Battle of Mogadishu. Has an RPG fragment in the center of his brain.

Rick is a HARD man.

Anyhow, Rick has a daughter. When her first date came over, Rick took him down to the basement to see his reloading bench. He taught the kid to make a sniper round. Then he wrote the kid's name on the casing with a sharpie and said "we'll just put this up on the shelf in case we ever need it."
I was thinking along these lines also.

You need to be careful on the PDG.
Way back when as in college, I went out with a fellow comp sci major. She was a really awesome. Before I went to pick her up on the first date, she warned me. My dad will be cleaning his shotgun in the living room, and you have to come to the front door to pick me up. I said sure, no problem.
First date comes, I go to the front door, and who do I see? My semi-regular trap/skeet mentor cleaning his gun in the living room. Never knew he had a daughter till then (they had different last names). Daughter and I went out, and I am sure we (well me at least) got away with a lot more than he wanted to know, all because he "knew me" from the gun range. :D

Sometimes the PDG works in reverse.

There is also something to be said for an old flintlock dragon pistol… hand him a 60 or 70 caliber soft lead ball….”just think, this would hurt if somebody threw it at you….what would it do at a 1000fps?….”
Reminds me of this scene:

I usually show the gentlemen callers my knife collection including the boyfriender. Five kids and 16 proms so far... no damaged vehicles, no injuries, and no babies. ;)

I don't have daughters, but you probably want them to marry someone who is good with a gun.

Years ago I went out on a date, and while we were waiting for drinks she asked if I'd like to see some picture of her. I said "sure", and she pulled out a little packet of photos. They were cute! One of them was her, in jeans and a t-shirt, smiling, rifle in one hand and holding up the head of the deer she just shot with the other. I think it was a Remington 700 in .30-06. Anyway, she was fun and we talked a bit about guns.

As long as the guy realizes he's not as cute as Bambi all will be good.

Rick is a HARD man. But also very friendly.

My neighbor a few doors down. Her dad was a big hunter so we got along. One day her older sister had a party and me and a few friends went. The living room was filled with all his mounts. He had onne empty slot for a future mount with a piece of paper "Gia's first boyfriend"
