NA Home AC issue

First the gas meter and now the outside AC unit... What other sabotage has that mower crew been doing?

I am outside surrounded by my disassembled pool heater right now.
Ironically enough, it appears that spiders spun webs in the pipes causing restriction in the gas flow so it won't light.

I swear if I didn't have kids, I would sell the house, move into an apartment and convert my equity into something shiny.

Pool heater? hahaha... This is Texas, baby.

Unless you have a Jacuzzi. Then you need to PM me your address :)

Flamethrower. Works on houses, gas lines, and spiders. And marshmallows.

A/C not cooling the mega mansion good enough, spiders in the yard, pool heater not working....Darn rich pilot problems..!!!!

Reading your problems makes me kind of glad I don't have an air conditioner in my house in New Mexico or Alaska....

I feel for ya', I grew up in south east Texas, I know how much better life is with a properly working A/C.

I use the heater for the hot tub and typically forget to turn it off. In the morning, it switches to "pool" and by the time I get home, I have a 25k gallon hot tub.
We do lots of swimming in winter when I make that mistake.

I have very few "real" problems.
My my first world problems are all fun ones. I could call a guy and have all these things fixed in a day but I like to tinker and figure things out.

... And then call a guy to fix it.

Is the fan outside running? If so, then clean the coils, but something doesn't sound right.

Buy some AC coil cleaner at the local home depot or equivalent, follow the instructions, you need air flowing through those coils or you are SOL.

:yeahthat:

I had a thru wall unit crap out on me and among other items, they steam cleaned the condenser coils. Yes in NYC they get fugly with dirt!

The tubes that go into the house

They are only a few degrees off so nothing here as far as I can tell

Register in my office from the good Unit.
That's some sweet azz cold air pouring in!!

Register from the bad unit. I did get closer to it to take a reading from the same distance as the one in the picture above. Temp was still 57 but blurry so don't say "Well it is farther away it is averaging the area blah blah blah." Come over and stand in the two rooms.
This room is far more important it is where I drink beer and watch zombie movies. Lately it is useless. Currently 86 degrees in there.

Looks like condensate drains. Mine have a float switch in that location to shut off the AC in case the drain line clogs up with algae.

Yep, white pvc pipes are the condensate drains. Can't recall if mine is open like that though and I'm too lazy to go downstairs to the basement. Tough luck, 6PC.

You definitely want to make sure you have float switches to cut off the AC if it gets clogged.

Oh and i bet your "bad" outdoor unit is too close to the fence. Needs some airflow.

You do have the sense to call a professional, don't you?

had 2 professional come out already. Will call another soon.

Yup. And if you pour some bleach in that vent pipe every once in a while, you won't get the buildup.

OMG, go to the extreme and get a professional to come out?

Who would do that if there is the internet with all the online experts.

When you finally get a real pro, get him to show you where all the drains are and the airflow pattern in that system. Expect the "that's not the way I would do it" comments.

Actually, that are the comments you want to get.

Including:
- 'I would put a trap with a float switch in here, it keeps the condensate line from gunking up and the float avoids having to replace all that drywall in your ceiling if it ever does*'.
- 'If I replace your run capacitors today, it's $100 in parts&labor and you are good for a couple of years. If one of them dies on a hot day, you have a hot house and it is a call-out fee on top of the parts.'
- 'Your idiot mow+blow has gunked up the coils on your compressor. And here is how you can clean it'.

So the 20 degree unit is low on freon, it should be above freezing so the evaporator doesn't freeze. For the warm one buy some coil cleaner and follow the instructions for extremely dirty coils, sounds like you are destined to spend some money. And, if you replace them, don't buy York, they have issues.

Willing to bet that you tripped over the condenser in the middle of the night whil you were filming spiders and caused the damage. Similarly to the gas meter.

I vote you change your name to Spicoli

I blame 6PC for my AC capacitor going bad last night.
Thankfully I am out of town so my cousin has to deal with it. He's not handy at all, so i assume my house will now burn down.

Thanks Brian....:D

AC went out day before yesterday, installed 6.5 years ago. Wife called the company that installed it, 2 hours later a repair man was here. Apparently a capacitor blew and tripped the breaker. While trouble shooting he found a warranty sticker on the air handler that said the whole unit and install was covered under a ten year warranty. He called the office and yep no charge. House is cool and the unit is running great. Life is good.
