    It's a family tradition. My wife's father used to leave the lights up year-round but change the bulbs to red-white-and-blue for July 4.

    I have a semi permanent set of blue rope lights lining the inside edge of my rear deck ceiling. I then hang the Christmas lights from the same mounting hooks. This way I can have either or both depending on which ones I plug in.
