    Hey there,

I recently added a second used (and I realize that might be part of the issue) TKM MX-170C to my radio stack. It is now my #1 NAV/COM. My #2 is a slightly older used -170C that was previously in the number one slot. Ever since installing the new-to-me unit, there’s been a lot of static with maybe some frequency bleed over. It seems to happen more on specific frequencies (ie: a tower/radar frequency) and in more urban areas. The static very seldom occurs on a CTAF frequency or in a more remote area. Any ideas of a fix? I’ve included a picture of the stack. It should be noted that the unit in question was refurbished at the TKM facility in Phoenix in March of last year, which is all the more frustrating that I’m having this issue. Thanks for any help!

The two little holes on the far right, marked D and S. The S is a squelch adjustment, takes a tiny blade screwdriver to adjust a trim pot in the hole, more or less the same function as an adjustable squelch knob on handhelds or other radios. That's a place to start, but you may have other issues as well.

Edit: Oops, sorry, after re-reading your post more thoroughly, I realize maybe you mean you hear static when you're receiving other transmissions from someone else. If that's the case, then the squelch adjustment would have nothing to do with the problem.

Perhaps swap the positons of both 170s and see what happens?

Do you have a cigarette plug USB charger/CONVERTER?
I found out that my new plug/CO detector was generating a bunch of static on my #2 radio. Unplugged, the racket disappears...Oh well, back to the old plug...

No I think your suggestion is good. There’s static even when there’s no communication being had.

I do but it hasn’t been plugged in. I’ll keep it in mind for when it is!
