Mooney Company sold

they were talking about it on the mooneyspace page. Overall it may be a good thing--keeping fingers crossed.

So that's, what, 2 or three, now? Commander, Mooney, Glasair?

Get used to it. Just like Japan in the '70's, we can expect more Chinese investment here in the future.

[HiJack] is there a good reference chart or something that compares the specs of different mooney models? I didn't really feel like joining mooneyspace. thanks! [/EndHiJack]

Strange. I just ordered a part from Glasair yesterday and asked about how things were since their Chinese management. He said everything is looking really good and heading towards certifying the Sportsman. I sucks that China getting into ownership but if it keeps American jobs and keeps them in business, I'm for it.

Unfortunately, this seems to be the wave of the future, not only in Aviation, but it seems all areas of business, and manufacturing in this country. I for one do not consider this a healthy direction, and I think at some point, probably sooner than later, this practice is going to be seen as the dying gasps of what was truly a great nation.

I guess this adds a whole new meaning to the expression "when pigs fly"

:rofl::rofl::rofl:

In seriousness though, after that big earthquake they had a few years back the leadership saw they had a need for GA and said they would be developing it in China, seems they are going through with it.

I'd rather Mooney was owned by the Chinese than shuttered. I'd much rather them building Mooneys for the Chinese than not building airplanes. I like Mooneys.

Well, they're buying it all with our money, this is what the New World Order is all about, creating Chinese, Indian and other third world consumers.

Now they too can make a small fortune in aviation by starting out with a large one. :D

What makes you assume they keep American operations open 1 day longer than it takes to open Chinese manufacturing of same? They will need get re-certified possibly with FAA but then its all over.

The market they are looking at is the Chinese/Asian market, not US. This is the intended outcome of the New World Order, to create a huge Chinese and Indian consumer marketplace.

Complicated issue. One factor in our being able to pay back the debt we are (still) running up will be a decline in the value of the dollar. With a cheap dollar, US manufactured goods will become price competitive on the world market. At the same time Chinese wages are rising in real terms. We are seeing a little of this already with companies "re-shoring" jobs. (http://www.economist.com/news/speci...es-are-moving-their-manufacturing-back-united)

So while one can't assume that the jobs will stay here, you also can't safely assume that they will not. Big and unpredictable economic tides will determine the outcome.

Mooney and China should be a good fit. The Mooney is a great airplane but labor-intensive to build. When previous buyers of the company tried to squeeze costs out of it the ended up screwing parts of it up. Little people working cheap should be a successful formula for Mooney production.

Will the Chinese move to Kerrville or will Kerrville move to China ?

All is answered in the grand master plan that can be found below. It looks like a hoax, but I think the site is real. It is a must read for anybody that is wondering what this is all about. Planet Mooney and the Mooney Billionaire Resort. It is mind boggling. I do not have high hope for the future of Mooney, or my parts supply.

Short story is, the new North American factory is to be in San Antonio, TX, not Kerrville. There are also to be factories in China and Spain.

Note, the copyright on the website is 2012. They have been thinking about this a long time now.

One can only assume a Bonanza Mega Billionaire club is in the making.

What makes you suspect that?

Because it's too clueless, dreamy and fantastical to be a hoax. It reeks of Chinese enthusiasm, hype and empire building dreams. It uses Mooney logos and images everywhere. A joke, or swindle wouldn't be half of what that site has.

The domain seems to be registered to someone in Spain.

Gotta give somebody credit for thinking BIG even if it's a hoax. Hard to imagine Chinese billionaire industrialists envying my 29 yer old M20J though.

Why, it's a rugged plane and the deal was probably cheap. After their last big earthquake, the Chinese central government decided they really needed to develop GA after seeing how hard it was to get into remote places vs the examples here in America like Northridge where GA kept the supplies flowing. That's why they bought Cirrus, Continental and Mooney. They would bro ably buy Beech too if they could.

It's official:

Mooney Announces Its Comeback
With New Funding, Mooney Sets Itself to Re-enter the Single Engine Market

Kerrville, Texas – After a five-year hiatus from manufacturing single-engine airplanes Mooney is pleased to announce that it will restart manufacturing at the beginning of January 2014 at its headquarters in Kerrville, TX. New funding from Soaring America Corporation, a California based Company will provide necessary capital to re-launch and sustain the legendary brand. Details of the financial arrangements will remain confidential. The company will continue to manufacture the Acclaim Type S, and the Ovation series.

“It’s a new day for Mooney. And with a new investment group that is committed to the future, we’re expecting to make a strong move in the industry,” noted Barry Hodkin, Chief Financial Officer for the company. It’s been a long time coming and we couldn’t be more excited about our return to manufacturing one of the finest and most trusted airplane fleets in the industry.”

The first order of business will be to hire and train a new workforce and reestablish the supply chain. The company is projected to recruit up to 100 people within the first year of operation. The company has a large variety of personnel needs that includes technicians, engineers, line workers, accounting and sales people. Within two years, the company is anticipating employing significantly more people depending on the demand for its products.

“While we expect to be reunited with some of our previous employees, we are confident we’ll attract new talent as we re-enter this aviation space. We’re looking for the best and brightest people to help meet our vision for the future,” said Hodkin.

The Acclaim Type S is recognized as the world’s fastest single engine airplane. The turbo-normalized airplane is home to over 130 speed records with a normal cruise speed of 230 ktas and a service ceiling of 25,000 feet. The Ovation series has cruising speeds up to 190 ktas and a service ceiling of up to 20,000 feet.

“It’s too early to provide the details, but we’ll have some very exciting announcements in the near future about the technological advances that will accompany the Acclaim Type S and Ovation series,” said Hodkin.

During the difficult economic times starting in 2008, when single engine sales dropped by over 30 percent compared to the year prior, Mooney ceased production. Over the last five years, the Company that was started by Al Mooney more than 80 years ago has remained in business, focusing on customer support for the Mooney planes still in service. Given more positive economic indicators and the unique market niche for Mooney airplanes, the company feels confident about a sustaining future in the industry.
