    Hey Monkey fans,

I'm aiming to depart within the next week and arrive at KRAP the beginning of the first week of June.

Planned route:... well, usually we'd fly the Alcan, but with the Alberta fires and whatnot, who knows? (Trench? Coastal route?) I think we're going to just play it by ear and follow the weather, and watch the smoke forecast.

    Who wants to meet up?
Recommendations for good fuel stops and camping airports always welcome!
Also, can someone please take this Monkey off my hands?

Subscribed, and willing to take over monkey travel responsibilities for a time.

If you end up east of the direct route, here are the fly-in events I know about in western North Dakota:
    June 11, breakfast at Y19
June 17, poker run including breakfast at 05D and final destination with lunch at KBWW
    June 18, breakfast at D05
June 24, lunch and terminal grand opening at 9Y1
    July 8, breakfast at KHZE
July 15 (tentative), lunch at S25

If you pass through CYQR or CYXE let me know and timing permitting, we could meet up.

@iamtheari , can you commit to this? Will you maybe be close enough to her itenerary? The timing doesn’t have to be perfect. If you can’t meet her in person because of the timing the monkey can still be handed off. It has happened before. She leaves him and the logs with an FBO. Tells them who is going to come pick them up.

I can absolutely commit to getting to the KGGW FBO on a sooner-or-later basis to accept the handoff. But I don't know @kath's border-crossing plans. I can soft-commit to other airports in the vicinity. And I can suggest another forum member for the handoff if Monkey stays with her until KRAP. Paging @Z06_Mir.

I’m planning to be in the KRAP area for at least a month. So there is not time urgency.

In that case, I might be able to get to KRAP in late June. Only a couple hours from Denver.

So, is this thread the POA 2023 KRAP meet-up thread or should we start a separate one? :)

    A meetup would be KRAPtastic!
    A weekend works best.
    P.s. arrived Killam-Sedgwick AB today.
There are a lot of fire-Notams you have to find out about and avoid, but not too much smoke.

    Wait for it…

Not smoky here this week but we have had a few extreme days recently including one that was widespread low IMC all day. Glad you’re making good progress.

Any pireps for Havre Montana (HVR) as an airport of entry?
    a) I’m having the dangest time trying to find contact info for the appropriate customs office, and b) how do you pronounce the name of the place?

    Hay-ver?
    Have-ree?
    Have-ruh?

As @asicer demonstrated, it's like "have 'er over for dinner." I think it was named for a guy who had something. He was a real haver.

I have no PIREP for the airport there. I've only been through the Hi-Line (the MT name for US-2) on a motorcycle 20-some years ago, and my report is that it is desolate country. Maybe @Chrisgoesflying knows about the airport.

Was actually trying to make a fuel stop there today, and got sent packing by some rather magnificent storms this afternoon.

As far as I know, Havre isn't an airport of entry. The nearest airport of entry would be KGTF, about an hour south of KHVR. When going to Montana, I always clear customs at KGTF.

According to CBP it isn't and I would trust the CBP website over ForeFlight to be honest. While there is a border crossing into Canada that is listed as "Havre", it's actually 40 miles north of Havre and nowhere near the airport. That's probably also the reason why OP cannot find any contact details for CBP at KHVR - there simply isn't a CPB office. See list of port of entries here: https://www.cbp.gov/contact/ports/mt and keep in mind, the one listed as "Havre" is a road crossing 40 miles north of Havre.

You mean the "two" listed as "Havre." And yes, it looks like they have Havre mailing addresses but only because there isn't another post office within a day's ride.

Correct, the two “Havre” locations on the list are road crossings from MT to Alberta about 40 miles north of Havre.

So, now that I'm here, should we organize something?
Is next weekend -- like Sunday the 11th-- too early for a meetup?
Locals: is KRAP actually a good place to meet up? I know they've got a little "passenger terminal" place, but I don't think there's a restaurant there... Not sure if there's a good place within easy striking distance of the airport, or if a different airport would be better.

The terminal itself is nice, but not much to do there other than relax. Also, the airport is several miles outside of town, so that limits the restaurant options.
