Wonder who's looking to get rich from this one?

"Bibb and Ronayne say repurposing this land will give potential for parks, trails and new development that could deliver billions of dollars for the city, county, region and state. "

How exactly do public parks generate revenue?

So.... 100LL is not toxic?

There are already plenty of trails and beaches along the lakefront that see little use. This isn’t about overcrowded parks or a lack of open space. The real goal is new development - they just list it after parks and trails to make it less obvious. It’s pretty shameful for a state that prides itself as the birthplace of aviation.

"We're sorry to inform you that the Federal Government is currently not operational due to a lack of funding. Please feel free to resubmit your request after the madness is over ... "

"What was once envisioned as a flourishing reliever airport is today an underutilized airfield with a fraction of its former traffic. The limited benefits it provides... [blah, blah, blah.]"

Sounds to me to be an admission that the management of the airport has been incompetent, with plenty of blame to go around, I'm sure.

It will be a sad day. Burke out the left, Brown's stadium off the right...

Jim

Lakefront airport was formed by accumulating dredged material from the bottom of the Cuyahoga river, one of the most polluted rivers ever. The landfill is full of industrial pollution: mercury, PCBs, heavy metals. Carcinogens are abundant. I don’t know how you’d fix that — if a covering layer of clean dirt can make it safe for habitation.

Oxymoron for the day: Clean Dirt
Nauga, probably

For those contaminants that’s exactly how you’d do it, or paving. If tree’d, one would need to manage fall leaves and pruning waste due to uptake.

I never got to go to Meigs. I badly wanted to, but it was carved up the day I soloed.

Luckily, I've gotten to go to Burke a few times. "Interesting" approach past the stadium, but it's easy walking distance to get to a WWII sub museum, the Rock 'n' Roll HoF, and other local attractions.

It's a good airport, and it should stay an airport. I wonder if they're planning on converting the Gen. Benjamin O. Davis Aviation High School next door to the Davis Real Estate High School.

It's Cleveland, what do you expect from the Mistake on the Lake? (Spoken by a CIncinnati native :stirpot: )

When airports take Fed money for airport use and close the airport and use the property for some other use, they are suppose to pay it back. Just like Chicago did with Meigs field or did Chicago ever pay the feds back?

For 20 years after accepting the money. If the last fed money was 20 years ago, no payback.
