He moved to Texas for a job. I really liked him. Not too hard, not too easy, just right. There are other instructors but they are at the flight school and young. building hours for the ATP, not that there is anything wrong with that. My guy was an independent. For the other pilots in eastern NC, does anyone have a CFII that they like? A good instructor but fun to fly with. Someone that instructs because they like to instruct. I have my IR so I am looking for BFRs and instrument currency.

I can highly recommend Scott Best / OBX Flight. His training is out of Johnston Regional Airport (KJNX).
I have heard really good things about their IR program. I tried to get on the schedule for early spring, but they seem to be booked up until fall 2020. I was trying for their accelerated program.
I feel your pain. I had a great CFI who passed away in the middle of my IFR training. It took me an additional 6 months to find another instructor to help me finish. Because of the local shortage, I've decided to get my CFI to try and help others like me. The only problem is my current CFI is flying big iron and isn't up to speed with small GA maneuvers and procedures.

Haha haha! I hear ya. I myself loved moving to Texas from NC. I don’t have to file that state return anymore!
Moving from OR (and CA) to WA solved that one for me 24 years ago. One of the few benefits left to living here. The locusts are getting thick.

How bout that proposition on state income tax on the recent November ballot... the one where if you didn't read they say it was worded, a no vote would allow the TX legislature to make state income tax happen. That amendment didn't accomplish anything significant. Texas hasn't had a state income tax for 173 years even without a prohibition in the state constitution. That was unlikely to change anytime soon regardless.
