So for about the past year my 6yo has obsessively been watching airshow and Oshkosh arrival videos on youtube. We went to Oshkosh this year and he went around asking me what every plane was. I know some of them for sure but not even close to all of them. He's also asking me what every plane is in his videos... constantly. Again, some I know some I don't.

I'm looking for some kind of book that would show different planes and identify them- he can read but may not have the patience to read a whole biography. Maybe one of the Jane's books or something like that but it would be nice if there was one that showed at least a good amount of the type of civil aircraft- big and small he's likely to see at Oshkosh.

IDK if anything like this exists but I figured if it does someone here would know.

Jane's ATWA is a great book for that kind of thing and includes civil aircraft. I've seen a lot of them in used book stores and library sales and the like, much more affordable than new although a little outdated.

Nauga,
who has a few old dusty copies

I ordered these two- the field guide to airplanes and another I found while searching called the "Big book of airplanes" which is an apt name since the thing is HUGE.

He's pretty into them, we'll have to take the field guide to Oshkosh if we go next summer. He took the big book of airplanes to bed with him last night and I've seen him with it throughout the day. I think maybe I need to get him Jane's for the warbirds too.
