So the guy in the hangar next to me decided to store bags of rice for some reason. Long story short, hangars were overrun with rats and they got into my plane and chewed a bunch of stuff up, and now I'm trying to pick up the pieces.

One thing they chewed up was the wires for my HID wingtip landing lights. I think I bought these direct from RMD back when they were still around, and I think K2U bought out RMD when RMD hung it up.

We contacted K2U to get replacement wires. Surprise, surprise: They won't sell just the wires. We have to buy a whole kit from them.

I don't need or want a whole kit. This looks like a specialty part, and I don't know who fabricates it for K2U. It looks specialty enough that I don't think I'd want to try to fabricate it myself even if I could source the cable and connectors. (I don't have pics right now, but will post some if/when I get the chance.)

Anyone have any ideas, or am I stuck with K2U?

Sucks big time, and it almost feels worth it to take the guy to small claims court.

Post a pic of the wire. It might be similar enough to strobe light wire that you could use that as a replacement.

Anyone have any ideas,
Look for your STC drawings to see if they call out a wire spec. Most HID installs I've seen had used a standard shielded cable to install. For reference, there should be numbers marked on the wires on the external cover. Get a pic of those.

Thanks. Haven't been able to make it out to the field yet myself, and the mechanic didn't get pics that show any numbers on the wires, but this is what he sent me:

I'm away from home for the long weekend, but will look for the STC paperwork when I get home. Dunno why I didn't think of that....

Looks like a pretty standard shielded cable, besides the proprietary connectors.

What is the extent of the damage? Splicing the wires/shield is an acceptable repair.

the mechanic didn't get pics that show any numbers on the wires,
Agree it looks like standard wire/cable. However, if that is the extent of the damage and there is no conductor damage/loss you may be able just to repair that surface damage? Definitely repairable vs complete wire replacement in my opinion.

Those look like the same connectors on the XeVision HID lights that I installed. You might send a picture of the connector to Dan Blumel. He might be able to help you out.
