Lets make Friday 'Joke Day'!

Too easy! We’re just back from a week in Wales, tacked on after a week in Ireland for our daughter’s destination wedding

They’re not big on vowels, the Welch. A few fun town names include:

Ynysybwl

Cwmystwyth

Ysbyty Ystwyth

Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch

Good luck getting any of those past the spell check on your GPS!

We also learned that in Wales, even more than in Ireland, any path 8’ wide or more ( rarely more) will be designated a two lane road, with on-street parking allowed.

Finally, this is my favorite Welsh traffic sign. We saw them everywhere, so I finally looked it up. It means “Drive the Speed limit”, but they aren’t going to tell you what it is.

Is the speed limit depicted as numbers in a circle? For the red car, I see 40 km/hour. I don't see one for the other direction.

Yes, but usually it is posted on the circular white signs. I didn’t mention that the numberless white signs with the black slash mean ‘obey the NATIONAL speed limit, which is 30, 60, or 70 mph, which you kinda have to know from the context of the road. When the speed limit is other than 30, 60 or 70 they post a number.

It technically means "end of all restrictions". Applies to speed limits or any other restriction imposed so far.
Yes, quite frustrating when you're not used to different road types and their default speed limits.

If I remember correctly from the time I was stationed in the UK, the National speed limits depicted by that sign was 30 mph in congested areas, 60 (I thought it was 50, but may be 60) mph on B roads (two lane back roads) and 70 mph on motorways, unless posted otherwise, of course. The 50/60mph speed limit on small country roads made for some fun driving experiences at legal speeds...until you came up behind a carrot or turnip truck on a blind curve.

LOL!

On my PPL checkride, my DPE began shouting "Fire! Fire! The engine's on fire!" while we were almost on top of the Orlando North airport, so I put the plane down there. BUT, I was very tempted to tell him "Well, if it were just an engine out I'd land on the airport below us, but since it's a fire I'm going to ditch in Lake Apopka. Hope you can swim." I wonder what his reaction would have been.

An instructor did that to me one time at Solberg just before I turned left base onto runway 22. She expected me to simply turn base and then final on 22. I turned base and lined up on Peters- his runway was perpendicular to Solberg. He really didn't like Solberg being there (even though his field was made later, after 1939) so he was a bit of a jerk. I got my engine back quickly!

During my primary training, my instructor was looking to her right and said "oh look, there's Plum Island". uh huh I didn't think anything about it. Then she reaches over, pulls power, and said that I just lost the engine. I went into the whole pitch up to best-glide, mixture reach, fuel pump, etc etc etc, and I set up for the emergency landing on the empty beach near Seabrook (I think). After she miraculously restored power, she told me that my procedure, etc were fine, but then pointed out that even better place to land would have been the Plum Island Airport that we had just passed.

After that, I added a quick peek to the right to see if there was something we had just passed that I may have overlooked.

My daughter texted me this tonight, I laughed dinner through my nose.

It’s the old-town St Charles, MO frog hole.

"Ladies and Gentiles"?

um, does the genius that did the meme know what a Gentile is?

I've heard that saying for about 40 years. Not quite as long as ladies and germs. Wonder if Milton Berle knew what a germ was.

Only 40 years? Ed, you must be young.

The Geezer is not young, and heard that one when he was very young. 1940's or so....

It’s still entirely possible that the person who did the meme has no clue.
