In the airplane: KI204 connected to KX155 with GS
    On the shelf: MD200-306 (I hear it's identical to a GI106A)

Is there any reason to install the GI106 and eBay off the KI204? Or is it better to sell the GI106 and keep the KI204?

    Asking for a friend.

sell the one on the shelf. No installation labor and your not fixing something that isn't broken.

A GI106A will not connect to a KX155, it doesn't have an internal VOR/LOC converter. The KI204 contains the converter.

Keep the KI204. Sell the GI106A.

    But a KI204 will connect to a SL30 and/or GNC255, right?

I can't see any. Maybe there are other techs that can attest to durability and repairability comparisons.

I came upon this paragraph in Section 2 of the SL30 install manual (as a refresher, the KI204 has a converter while the GI106 does not; also the GNC255 does not appear to have this limitation as it doesn't appear to have VOR monitor mode or BC mode):

LIMITATIONS ON USING A COMPOSITE SIGNAL
If an external converter is driven from the composite output in conjunction with a full function CDI/HSI with resolver, the indicator head type, when selected from the Setup Mode during the post installation checkout, should be RESOLVER. In this installation, the composite output will be disabled whenever the VOR monitor mode is active or back course localizer mode is enabled. This will cause the external converter to flag. If the CONVERTER option is selected from the Setup Mode as the indicator head type, neither of these two options is available to the pilot and the composite output should always be valid. The CONVERTER setup option should be used if an external converter is the only indicator interfaced to the SL30.
