So, I'm Northbound at an intersection, he's Southbound. We're both turning West (me a left turn, him a right).

Now...with that said, timing is important here. I'm in the intersection number two behind another car turning left with a green light and we're waiting for a break in the oncoming traffic. Just as the light turned yellow our break came and number one car made the turn. I followed and that's when our Southbound truck shows up. He's a bit back and as I'm rolling it's obvious he want to roll through the light too and make the right.

Now, the light is at the end of yellow turning red and I'm in the intersection. He rolls into me and we all hit the brakes. We're T Boned with me being the top of the T and he's sitting there giving me the bird.

Is he a Jerk?

Yes, your level of complicit jerkiness though is proportionate to the distance your throttle was off the floor. I.E. If you had it floored you were not a jerk at all on one end, and if you hit the brakes before he hit you, you are a worse jerk than he.

If the light wasn't red when he entered the intersection you broke the law by not yielding to oncoming traffic. I don't know about "jerkiness" but it appears you are 100% in the wrong.

When you first saw him, you should have stood on it so he had room and time to get in behind you before the other traffic got there, that's Italian driving rules; I love driving in Italy, it's based on expected courtesy and expects acceleration and motion.

......
Is he a Jerk?

Nope.................. vehicle to your right has the RIGHT OF WAY.....

He was on the right side of you........

Learn the rules of the road before you start pi$$ing and moaning....:goofy:

Not if he had preceded him into the turn.

You made a left turn in front of oncoming traffic?

And you want to know people's opinion of the other guy?

Some people lack self-awareness.

Your fault, you were crossing into his path, you should have yielded.

See, this is why I like Italian rules better, person closest to the intersection floors it and the other person lifts off the throttle and comes in behind and both of you clear the intersection in the minimum amount of time so you don't block more traffic since the light has already turned. (Or as is most common, there is no light or sign at the intersection at all.)

Unfortunately your at fault. However he may be a jerk for forcing the issue.

You were trying to beat the light, and in doing so you cut in front of crossing traffic that had the right of way. Whether you thought you had enough time, or you thought he was stopping, or you didn't see him cause you weren't paying enough attention, the end result is the same. It could not possibly be any more clear cut. You were 100% at fault, and a jerk. And you deserved the bird.

It happens to the best of us sometimes. I've done it too. Looked and thought it was clear. Didn't see a car. Fortunately it was more of a light grazing.

Here is a video from my dash camera of some jerk doing exactly the same thing to me, except I didn't hit him.

Last I checked if you approach a red light you cannot roll through and make the right turn. Also, if you're IN an intersection with a red light you're expected to clear. I was in it the whole time.

Good video. Just make your light red and you've got his perspective exactly. Well, except you'd be turning right...but that's it.

See, that's the difference in thought between a selfish society and a compassionate society. "I am allowed to go first, therefore I will go first." Vs "Since he is sitting in an intersection to go left on a yellow light, it is more critical to the flow of traffic that he clears this intersection, and I will still have room to get in behind him before the crossing traffic comes up (besides, Incan always turn in on the next opening, I When you first saw him, you should have stood on it so he had room and time to get in behind you, that's Italian driving rules. (besides, I wont have to wait for the next light to go like he will, Imjust need a gap to make a right) and everybody keeps rolling at the best rate possible for everyone."

"Me First" thinking does not work at high population density.

Remember, I was number two so I couldn't gun it without hitting the car in front. I was right on their heels clearing the intersection though...

Sooooooooo..

You should have held in place and waited for the next traffic light cycle.....

You are still an idiot....

That doesn't give you any rights.

Courtesy would have had the oncoming traffic yield on yellow.
The law however is not on your side. It's your responsibility when making left turns to not cut off those coming in the opposite direction.

I have no idea what point HENNING is making. Whether the oncoming traffic is turning or going straight, he has the right of way over Captain making his left.

The safe and legal thing to do would be to wait (even if it took another light cycle) to proceed safely.

Lol, why are these jerk threads so contentious? Idiot? Really? Have you read these before?

So, should I just wait it out in the intersection or back up?

Seems like you put yourself in position based on the assumption that no one would be coming through the yellow light the opposite way.. and there was someone. First left-turner can make it through a yellow no problem. If you're #2, better make sure there's no one coming before you commit to the turn.

If you were in that position already in the intersection with a yellow light, I believe you had legal right of way. There are 'overlap' points where rights change.

To address your most recent points... How do you know the light was red when he crossed the line and hit you? Sounds like you were BOTH trying to get through the yellow. And in such as case, he had the right of way.

If you crossed the line just at the end of the yellow and if he crossed the line just after the red, then he would indeed be the one at fault. However, this will be damn near impossible to prove. The only obvious thing is you were turning left on a yellow, trying to beat the light, and you cut someone off. Even if he blew the red by 1/2 a second, you still won't win.

No, when the light turns yellow, the left turning cars already in the intersection, typically 2, have right of way to clear the intersection, same applies if the light turns red and they are still sitting there.

Last week a Vegas taxi driver showed me how you properly turn right onto a busy intersection where the traffic is non-stop and nobody is letting you in. You just PRETEND to go by hitting the gas and brake quick until someone gets scared they'll hit you and hit their brakes. Then you go.

He did that to about 20 cars and then finally a driver slammed on their brakes thinking he was going to go and we had our opportunity to merge in.

Timing does NOT matter..... Vehicle on the RIGHT has the right of way.. Same as in marine applications......

Captain is #ucked....

Obviously you have some issue with me personally. I don't know what and I have no idea who you are. But...I have a question Einstein, with two on coming cars who exactly is on the 'right'?

...sheesh

No sir, the situation would fall under 'In Extremis' rules, same as in marine applications: "When it is determined that the actions of one vessel alone will not be sufficient to avoid collision, it is incumbent upon both vessels to act as required to avoid collision, avoiding turns to port so long as it is practicable.";) Most places the rules for this have been written and they are as I state to clear intersections.

Which is exactly Captains problem........:mad2:.:mad2:.

If you got hit on the right side of the car, they were on the right.

In MN when I was taught to drive I was told to enter the light on yellow even of it will block the intersection.
MN changed the rules now you can not enter unless you can clear the intersection.
Trying to stop gridlock.
Different states different rules.

Nobody entered the intersection on yellow. I entered on green to wait number two for a break to turn. He entered on a red, albeit a fresh red.

Remind me to NEVER fly around you at a uncontrolled field with me landing and YOU waiting to take off.........:hairraise:....:yikes:...

R u off your meds? Why would you get so worked up over this? It's a silly thread on a forum where rival threads ask what you're eating. This isn't nearly as important as you make it.

Hmmm

I didn't collide with another vehicle..... YOU did....

I never said we collided.

Plus, maybe you're new to these 'Jerk Threads' of mine, but I often switch perspectives and events for dramatic effect. Never let the truth get in the way of a good story, I say.

Remember, this site is for entertainment and a little information with a pilot theme. For some reason you're to the point of calling me an idiot and using profanity. Chilax...it's really not that important.
