iPad Mini 8 Rumors

The iPhone Duo looks interesting, I think I'd want to see how it holds up to real world use for a while before I'd buy one though.
I think the reason Apple waited 7 years past when folding phones first came out was to wait for all of the crummy iterations of the folding screens to be refined into something they felt was worthy of their brand. I think they also have really cheap screen replacements for them under AppleCare to ease any worries people might have.

I'm planning a phone/mini combo - I want a better camera and my crummy fingerprints make TouchID not work for me - but why not get the smaller 18 Pro and save a few bucks?
Better battery, bigger screen for my older eyes. Often the Max has a slightly better camera as well, though that's not the case this time around.

Any EFB with fixed (and bright) UI interface elements will (eventually) cause screen burn in OLED displays.
It this case it was Avare, but it'll happen with others as well.

Had to find the old phone and take some pictures of the damage.

Examples of the UI burned into the screen, visible on a bright background (you might need to open them full screen):

Bottom menu bar:

Top flight data bar:

That damage was done in about 250-300 hours.

Thanks. Doesn't seem too extreme for that usage.

Which I-thing has the best camera? That's the most important criteria for my wife. She might stop carrying her Nikon if she had a really good camera phone.

Any of the recent iPhones with the word "pro" in them. My wife hasn't used her Nikon in years.

My iPad overheated numerous times in the cockpit, had it mounted to the yoke. Sadly it fell off the motorcycle (it was in a tank bag I forgot to reattach) and got wrecked. The tank bag itself survived, more or less. It did see some more use. However, once the iPad was put in the shade it recovered quickly.

I have minis in both planes. That’s where they live. No browsing, no downloaded movies. Both run on ship’s power. Both run GP and weather apps. Both have been flawless. Waterproof? No need. Dustproof? No need. Oled screen? No need. Faster processor? No need. Chasing the newest thing that isn’t better for the application? No need.

iPhone 18 Pro (or Pro Max). They added a physical aperture this year, and someone who knows what they're doing as a photographer would probably appreciate that.

It's here... And it's pretty expensive!

iPad mini 8 - Apple
You’d probably get more credibility if you had used an Apple link rather than a Google URL

The one most of us here will be interested in is cellular + nano texture (anti glare) display + 256GB (required for nano texture)

$150+$100+$799=$1,049

Off topic here, but FWIW we just had a mini 6 crap the bed (user error - moisture) and replaced it with an "Amazon refurbished - excellent" unit. iPad mini 6, cellular 256GB. Came in a day or two for $339. Looks and works perfect and I'd do it again.

Don't forget the new Apple Pencil because it's already not compatible with the 2nd-gen one. I guess magnetic charging at that price point was too easy.

My Mini 6 is still working fine, maybe a little slow, haven't upgraded to iPadOS 27 yet... But with the slow refresh cycle of the Mini, I don't know that it'll still be working fine in a few years. It seems like most people are as unimpressed as I am with this.

I had just about written off the iPhone Duo... Now maybe I need to take another look.

Unless you have one now and get glare, I would not get the nano texture. Washes the colors a little and is easily damaged. I fly high wing and don't get glare on my current mini, so I'm not adding nano texture.

Yeah, that'd drop the floor down to $699+$150=$849 (128GB + cellular/GPS)

Have you had an Apple device with nano texture? I thought this was something new with the Duo.

No, but I looked into it. Requires a special cleaning cloth and special cover to go over the glass, should you want to put a case on it. Otherwise you could damage the texture....

Well, I guess I'm a low wing guy. Will check out the ipad mini nano. :stirpot:

New to the iPhone and iPad Mini, but not new to Apple devices in general. It's been available on their displays for several years, and also the MacBook Pro, iPad Pro, and iMac.
