Interview for Denver Intl

Semi-settled in Erie now. First day was today, a bunch of paperwork but them a lot of cool stuff including a tower tour and airside operations run and other great things. Exhausted but more tomorrow and all week as my training starts. I think they are hooking up the firehose as we speak...

Also I25-270-70-Pena is really rough. 470 toll road is really direct but costs a lot for what I hear. I'm going to try it once tomorrow for reference and to know how it looks and runs before anything crazy weather wise happens etc. Do any of you Denver guys know of any good surface streets that I could take? I'm still trying to learn ways to get there and back.

Also Henning I had to sign a confidentiality agreement so I can't tell you or the Enquirer or anyone else about the secret illuminati base!

From Erie yer really pretty much screwed getting to DIA. Spend some time on map.google.com to scope the surface streets. I think down around 96th may work but study the maps.

Ya really wanna find some place to live in Green Valley Ranch. Hope it works out for you.

Came home through DIA this evening. Didn't see anyone who reminded me of that avatar...

You wouldn't - I have cameras for that! :wink2: :D

I went 8-3pm today. From now on its 8-5. I gave you my number right?

In fact you denver area people can PM me numbers and I'll text/add you if you want.

Yes you did give me your number... as she hastily goes through her PMs.

I see I also gave you mine.

I was there about 8 pm tonight so I guess you didn't see the asian chick in the green jacket on your cameras.

It's been a long time since I lived north but is 104th east horrible these days? It was being extended out to Tower or beyond back in the day...

I did not! But now I know who to look for :D

Also, took the toll road this morning to get used to the exits and traffic on it and wow is it faster. About 40-45 mins total. I signed up for their expresstoll thing online and it gives a discount by prepaying and having a transponder so it looks like 5 bucks a way instead of 7.50. The slowest it got was 70 in a 75 and for a short time. Thinking ill use it in the case of bad weather or running late. I'll try to find a route today that's surface streets and take it home to test.

Day two here we go!

I've never seen ANYONE that reminded me of that Avatar! At least nobody that didn't eventually wind up in prison or a hospital.

You pay by segment on E470 so be careful.

You have stumbled onto the one thing I hate about Denver. It has big city traffic problems, but little town sized road planning. You'll find a good route some day. I recommend using Waze to find the quickest route each morning until you're comfortable.

How's the job going?
And the commute?
And is the GF still a GF/fiancé ?

Actually, as of today, I have been promoted to full time :D

Still not signed off on working solo, because there is just so much to learn about the position, but I am getting there!

The commute is still rough but I'm making it work. Looking into a place to rent in Aurora so I can get moved into my own place. The fiancé is still a fiancé and she's recovering well and shouldn't be in OK too much longer...hopefully.

:D Still can't believe I'm working at DIA

Great news! And yes, there is snow in Denver, at least in my yard...

Great. That's what I was hoping to hear.

It's standard January. Cold as hell and it spits an inch or two every few days which doesn't stay on the streets long in town but doesn't really melt on the grass much either, so it's crusty and about 4" everywhere that's not where cars are. My least favorite time of the year, really.

There's still snow around! Most of those were taken when I first started working is all :D

I should add that since I have been promoted up to full time, a slot or two have opened up for the on-call position I had (and possibly a full time one). If you airport ops guys are interested, look for a posting for the City and County of Denver website in a week or two. Feel free to PM me for info and opinions and etc about the job and hiring process.

Still loving the job, by the way. It is surreal walking through an international airport with no flight to catch. I can actually enjoy it!

It is heartening to read about someone whose employment is uplifting - thanks for sharing all this, as it gives me a smile.

I remember when I had a job I loved so much that I would almost pinch myself - amazed that they paid me to have so much fun. Worked with great people, a company that supported its folks and treated them with respect, valued its customers and deployed whatever was needed to take care of them.

Here's hoping your enjoyment never fades! Keep telling us stories.

Just out of curiosity, what happened to that job?
