Stumbled on this video of a blown flaps (wing in this case) DIY project. Ended up being a pretty cool watch with a cup of coffee.
The (flap) concept has been around for a long while, and I'm guessing if it was something very cost/weight feasible, it would be more in use than it has been in the past. However, with newer technologies in materials and electronics, maybe it could be. Like maybe special situations where slow-flight/STOL is desired more than efficiency. Drones probably fill that market, at least up to a point.

Either way, I bet this guy has a ball doing this stuff.
It does get one thinking about things.
At least until the coffee wears off.

NASA was doing blown flap studies way back in the '70s. Look up the QSRA.

Yeah I read a little on wikipedia and couple other sites very briefly.
Still in use apparently on some aircraft today.
This guy is using it as the entire propulsion system which was a bit interesting.

YC-14, YC-15, C-17, AJACS...

Nauga,
up and down
C-17, a plane I actually know what it is, intrigued me. So it looks like it’s very simple without a bunch of parts like other ways of doing it with blowers and ducts and stuff. It just utilizes the exhaust flow from the engine blowing through the flaps. Wouldn’t any plane with engines under the wing and slotted flaps be the same?

FTFY

that dude seems like a really really smart stoner. when he boops the plane as it passed by? yeah, dude is lit.....

I saw a aircraft set up for this at Arnold Engineering Development Complex back in the 90s on a college tour. They were pretty much done with it at that point & it was just a display aircraft.

Hah! I saw this exact same video today. It was interesting that it was the entire propulsion system. Pretty neat that SGOTI can build something like that so quick and cheap at home these days!

Followed it up with a Veritasium video about football aerodynamics where they actually taught Tom Brady a thing or two. There is so much fascinating content on the Internet... And here I am, blathering on and bringing the signal to noise ratio back down. :D

Also interesting that we all get fed the same video on YT.
