How do IFR flights to non-towered airports work?

They had to buy all of it. Was probably well after the twin otter days so they probably only ever installed them in the Dash 7s. I could ask some old timers if I remember.

So they did need dedicated equipment in the plane. Ain’t no thang if you don’t ask, just idle curiosity. What was the airport? I’m guessing it was in a ‘curvy’ valley where they really needed a curvy Localizer to have spent the buckos on it

Yup. The airport was likely both Steamboat and the long-gone Avon “STOLPort”. I believe they owned two private airports at their peak.
