Hello everyone. This might sound stupid, but I’m freaking out right now about some things I’ve done in the past, and I would really appreciate some advice.
I hold a Medical Class 1 certificate, and I have never had any significant medical history. I’ve never been hospitalized, never received a psychiatric diagnosis, and I don’t take any medication.
More than five years ago, I tried drugs once at a nightclub with a friend. I had a bad reaction that night and remember hallucinating. After that, I never used drugs again. At the time, I was very ignorant about mental health, and I somehow convinced myself that if someone hallucinated after taking drugs, it meant they had schizophrenia or psychosis.
Because of that misunderstanding, I started telling some friends that I had schizophrenia when they asked me about going out or taking drugs. I would say that I could never do drugs again because I thought I had schizophrenia based on that one experience.
A couple of years ago, I started dating a girl, and we had a similar conversation. I told her that I thought I had schizophrenia, and she explained that I was simply misinformed and that experiencing hallucinations after taking drugs does not automatically mean someone has schizophrenia. We stayed together until last week, when we broke up. Unfortunately, the breakup has not gone well.
She has now threatened to send screenshots of our conversations to the FAA, claiming that I have schizophrenia and psychosis, particularly the messages where I said that I have schizophrenia.
The problem is that I have never actually been diagnosed with schizophrenia, psychosis, or any other psychiatric condition. I was simply ignorant at the time and misunderstood what happened to me that night.
My question is: if she actually reports this to the FAA, would they take those messages seriously? Would they assume I have schizophrenia or psychosis based solely on text messages, or would they ask for medical records, an evaluation, or other evidence? Could this potentially have consequences for my Class 1 medical certificate?
I also want to mention that I never declared the drug use because it happened only once, more than five years ago before my medical, and I have never used drugs again.
i also never failed a drug test
I’m really stressed about this situation and would appreciate any informed advice or experiences from people who understand FAA medical certification.
Flying means a lot to me, and I’ve worked extremely hard to get where I am, so I’m terrified that something I text years ago out of ignorance could jeopardize everything I’ve worked for.
