    Hello Folks

Doing some research, can someone please let me know what the approximate hot section costs are for the following engines ? Assume "no maintenance surprises" during hot section

    Garrett TFE731

    GE CF34-3A

    PW JT15D

    Thank You

My guess is you may get a few responses, but most here are not turbine aircraft owners.
Don't get me wrong, there are many knowledgeable folks here including experienced A&P's.
That said, 99% of the folks here have never gone through a turbine hot section.

Ha! Yep, better off to ask this question over at Beech Talk; lotta rich turbine dudes over there!

StarCheck huh? I flew there for a coupla years when it was US Check, '91-92. C-310s outta Omaha. Good times...

I flew checks for a competing company during the US check/Starcheck days. That's truly when I learned how to fly. Should be mandatory stepping stone for every pro pilot.

What is included in this "hot section" you are referring to? Borescope inspection? If you are talking borescope inspection, I don't know the specifics of those types. I have been doing hot section borescope on numerous engine types for nearly 30 years, they can differ considerably, from less than an hour to several hours to complete.

Absolutely! But, with the canceled check night freight gig gone the way of the dinosaur, there's fewer opportunities for guys to get that kind of experience these days. Starcheck, Checkmate, Bankair, Air Exchange, etc, all long gone now.

Yup. Now the super inexperienced are flying our regional airlines.

I think you're on the wrong end of the food chain posting here. Without any more info I'll assume you're a small corporate ops or fractional owner ops. Best bet is to call your airframe field reps and get a list of MRO engine vendors from them. Good luck.

It will be difficult to get any meaningful numbers without more info. What region of the country, is the repair facility a factory authorized or independent? Do you want just the cost of inspection or typical all in cost? Just too many variables. I will tell you this though, if writing checks for $50K+ causes you heartburn, might want to consider 100LL rather than kerosene.

Unless it’s the first hot section there are way to many variables. SB and AD compliance required at Hots, who does the work, etc. Engine shops tend to specialize on one manufacturer also.
Some people use third parties to negotiate the scope and price.

The first engine on your list hasn't been a Garrett for years. Its a Honeywell engine now. Where ever you go make sure they clock and pin the A5 nozzle correctly on the TFE731. Many shops including Honeywell at the factory have made that mistake. Happened to one of our Lear 45s.
    Is the TFE731 a -1, 2, 3.....?

You can always go to Ameriflight if you think flying single pilot IFR in marginal steam gauge equipment somehow is relevant to regional airline flying. Two different skillsets.

    And your point is??

But yes... that type of experience is no longer the norm like it was back in the 80's.
If you didn't have 1000 PIC ME time the regional airlines (then called commuter airlines) would put your resume in the circular file.

Point is, that kind of flying doesn't make you any better pilot in a regional airline.

It definitely impacts hot section costs, though.
