Mucking around on the innerwebz, I stumbled across this site. Has absolutely nothing to with our long gone friend, but the story is almost crazy enough to think it maybe could have been....

They're fake???

In 1940 an ounce of gold was $35.00. They keep printing money and ‘quantitative easing’ and using other words to mask the fact that they are overspending and monetizing the debt.

Todays gold price is 5,024.11. Apples to apples, he 1940 nickel had the buying power of $7.18 today. Or more to the point they have devalued our currency.

Since 1940, the U.S. dollar has lost approximately
95.7% of its value

The highest denomination available for the general public is still the $100 bill.
And we're still stuck with ATMs not issuing anything higher than a $20 bill.

Just a random rant tied to the loss of value.

Bank of America ATM's issue $100 bills

Is this where someone inserts a snarky comment about people still using cash?

Recently moved; ATM I use kicks out $5, $20, and $100 bills.
I don't know since when, but mine has options for $20, $50 and $100.

When giving as gifts, my family shows more appreciation for cash (or at least pretends to).

Went to the ATM today for only the second time since we moved to Portland six months ago. Only had $100 bills in the wallet, needed some $20s.

yup - the universal gift certificate can be useful.

(btw - I was making a snide obscure reference to the most recent ATIA thread where some were complaining about waiting for people to pay with cash (or check) instead of just using a card)
