You know those conversations you have while sitting around the hangar having a beer or two? Why is hangar spelled with an "a"? Why is it not an airplane garage? And women think we sit around talking about them!!

A hangar is a building or structure designed to hold aircraft or spacecraft. The word hangar comes from Middle French hanghart ("enclosure near a house"), of Germanic origin, from Frankish *haimgard ("home-enclosure", "fence around a group of houses"), from *haim ("home, village, hamlet") and gard ("yard"). The term, gard, comes from the Old Norse garðr ("enclosure, garden").

And now you know.

Got to love the French, who also gave us the words empennage, fuselage, aileron, as well as parachute.

Why is it not an airplane garage?

Yeah, "Garage" is also French.

In the 1980's Peugeot introduced a sporty hatchback model with a large "S" painted on the doors. It was a matter of national pride. When it went down the road, people would say - in their French accent of course -
"Look at that S Car Go"

Same punch line as the joke about the snail that wanted a new car, in this case wanting to change the name from a 240Z to a 240S.

This is an airplane hanger:
Or under...
I've been dreaming of something like this:

If house is above hangar, put in an elevator. Your older self will be much more happy.
That was the plan if we go that route. And a big waterslide off the balcony into the pool for the grand kids.

Or under...

Still trying decide what route to go in Tennessee.
I must have missed it. Have you moved/are moving to Tennessee?
You could buy TN80, Schiff.
Its a slightly curved & sloped runway on a hill with a hangar built into the hilltop.
I think its closed now, but an inventor ran his twin commander out of there. Private runway next to his house.
I landed there a couple times about 30 years ago.

When I was growing up, occasionally on a long road trip we'd use a car top carrier from Sears, the S-Cargo:
