My soul doth magnify the Lord. For behold, from henceforth: all generations shall call me blessed.

When there's a Florida yuletide 80F nip in the air and I get to shoot my guns, ride my motorcycle, and fly my airplane all within the same week, it's been a really really good week! There must be some looming disaster waiting to overtake me....

It's 22 here with snow on the ground, and the past week was so busy I wasn't able to do any of that. Shoot me now. :cryin:

I've been jonesing for a motorcycle lately. I crashed my last one in August 1999, just before we found out my wife was expecting our first born. What I'm wanting to do is another long trip, but I don't think my body would be too happy with me, plus the dogs would miss me. Oh well, Christmas is on the horizon (fun), then we have a bathroom remodeling in January, with two dogs that really like to bark.

You sound like a good candidate for an FJR-1300.

Looks really good, but I don’t see the plaque that commemorates where @RyanB and @Salty once stood in that hangar. Just make sure you remove it if you leave the hangar so they don’t charge the next guy double the price!

As I get old(er) I still enjoy riding my 06 VTX-1800R but I don't have the endurance I used to have. I was once an all day/night rider but now, even with a wonderful mustang seat, floor boards, and good grips I'm usually good for three to four hours. If I really want to get where I'm headed I can endure a bit more but the enjoyment factor decreases pretty quickly ...

The plaque is on the hangar door, which of course was open and so the plaque isn’t in the shot.

That's a nice ride. All the bikes I picked for myself were twins, the first was a Honda CL175, a scrambler styled parallel twin I rode in high school. @Ghery had one of these as well. The second one was a Moto Guzzi V50, half liter V twin, kept it until I didn't have a place to keep it.

The last one, was a Honda NT650 Hawk GT. Here it is set up for traveling.

I went 5172 miles in 12 days. Started in Schaumburg, Illinois, northwest of Chicago. Got as far west and north as Dinosaur Provincial Park in Alberta, then back though Montana and Idaho, then through Utah and Colorado, then Oklahoma and Arkansas, finally through Mississippi and Alabama on my way to Atlanta. My mind thinks doing another trip like that would be a good idea, but my body, wife, and dog have other ideas.

That's why God gave us ibuprofen.
And that's why He gave us life insurance.
and dog have other ideas.
And that's why He gave us wives.

Get the bike! Ride as much as you can! Are you planning to wait until you get younger?!

Fast motorcycles are for old men. We're not putting very much of our lives at risk.

Got a friend that lives up in Utah now, and he rides daily til there's 6" or more of snowpack on the roads. His wife quits at 1"....

Half fast, you have honestly made me consider buying a new motorcycle. I still have my shovelhead FLH chopper that I use to ride a lot in my 20’s, but I haven’t rode in years. Between working, kids, and maintenance to keep it reliable enough to trust for road trips it ended up just getting mothballed (probably 17 years now except for a brief two week stint of taking it out for a few rides about 8 years ago). It isn’t practical, no front breaks, needs higher octane than is currently commonly available, vibration constantly trying to loosen things, and when the caliper piston seal started leaking I just parked it. I mis riding, and a new modern bike might be in my future next spring.

I really want a bike again, but the drivers near me make me want to upgrade my car to a tank with reactive armor -- I don't think I would ever relax on a bike. Sigh.

The sidecar doggos are amazing. <3

I get it.

I didn't get a bike until we moved out to a rural area 20+ years ago. Traffic is becoming unreasonable here now, but I can still ride lots of back roads without encountering too many murderous cars (it's better when the snowbirds go home; God protect me from Volvos from Ohio). I try to stay away from the major thoroughfares.

Just remember,....

The Floridaman trifecta. In Aviano, it was ski in the morning, 9 holes in the afternoon, and night flying afterwards.

After a number of motorbike crashes in my younger days I decided to stick with safer things like antique and experimental airplanes.

Have had a few minor moto incidents and one major accident. High side at about 60mph on the Tail of the Dragon. Beautiful flight, BAD landing. Surgery required.

Still have two bikes, still ride.

Okay, @Flatiowa - it’s been six months, spring is nearly ended. Did you get a new bike? Post pics!

Very late to the party, but I hope that Daytona doesn't have Lucas electrics.

When I still lived in NJ, there was usually a window in late March/early April when you could make a SCUBA dive in the morning and still get to one of the local ski hills for an afternoon on the slopes. Actually, that would be even easier here in the lake country of North Idaho, but it's now more work than I'm willing to invest.

No, but it did take a while to get it to stop leaking oil and coolant. The only fluids the Brits understand are tea and beer.

Hey, I live in N ID, too!

Big deal. Here in Florida you can go diving and skiing from the same boat!
:)

Unfortunately I haven’t. I’ve been a lot busier this spring than I expected six months ago and it looks to stay that way throughout the summer. That combined with the wife’s car needing to be replaced is making it unlikely it will happen this year.

At least that gives you plenty of time to shop, right?
