The only IR book I have is a Jepp book from pre-2004. I know they added a bunch of knowledge stuff between then and now with GPS and all that jazz. What's the recommendations for reading? I don't need a study guide to spoon feed it to me, just the information.

There's a couple of FAA instrument books online (free), and one I haven't looked at is about advanced avionics which I believe covers GPS, and the new displays. Sorry, don't know the exact title but it's something w/ advanced in the title. Also free online @ FAA.gov

IFH plus Instrument Procedures Handbook, for freebies.

I used the FAA publications above plus FAA Weather books for the Wx related questions and Shepard Air for practice exams.

What do you mean? To me, a study guide is a minimalist document with "just the information".
