Good deal on C-182RG

The airplanes sold for the following:

172RG- $52,000
182RG- $63,000
210- $147,500

I was on the auction and just sat in amazement at the prices these went for. I had a bit of an insight to these aircraft due to being friends with the former director of the aviation division for the state. I had also been talking with the pilot of the 182 who had been flying this aircraft for the past 11 years. No way was I was going to pay that kind of money for a 12,000+ hour 182 with a mid time engine. You throw in the auction commission, plus the paint job, plus the annual costs that are most likely going to be huge due to these aircraft not moving for the past 18 months. No way:yikes: I could buy a nice 195 for the money I would have sunk into this 182.

I was able to get a couple of Lightspeed Zulu headsets out of it, so I am happy!:)

YGTBSM! I'm sure the NV taxpayers will be pleased, but wow.

What happened there ? Did the state just decide to do away with the whole aviation division ?

Probably the fixed wing stuff. Why operate an old FW plane for $150hr when you can operate a flashy helicopter for $1500hr?

I'm betting that with the planes equipped as they were, salvors bought them.

If that's the case they should be buying them off Controller instead of at auction!
A 210 for $165K! The airplane salvage business must be different for the car salvage business. ;)

Did you read the equipment list on the 210? There was over $300k in salvage there IIRC, it was an impressive list & a near SNEW engine.

No, I just saw the 182, my experience with salvage folks is usually $.50 on the dollar vs the selling price of the used parts. Doesn't make them bad guys, just a lot of holding time and somoe parts are tough to sell. ;)

Exactly, and 50¢ on the dollar against the salvage parts is about correct, it had some expensive stuff in the panel.

To make a long story short, it sounded like there was several changes at the top with NHP and the "new" bosses wanted things changed regardless of the input they were receiving from below. It was determined that the aviation division was costing the state more money than it was making. This despite the solid numbers that were provided to them that proved the contrary.

Well, they DID make out like thieves when it came to selling those raggedy old aircraft :wink2: .

2 years from now, there wil bee a new 'new' boss and suddenly there will be an aviation division flying Kodiaks.

Well, you know how government works. The NHP paid for the aircraft and everything that went into them, but the proceeds of the sale goes back to the state general fund and buys shovels and safety vests or something!

Kodiaks would definitely be cool though!!

Oh, you wish.

4/10 dollars pay for state medicaid
3/10 pays for someone elses kids education
1/10 goes to the road building mafia

The cost to pay your state elected officials (4.6%) comes close to the entire public safety budget (6.08%).

Yes, I get it:rolleyes: I work for a fire department at the city level, so, daily I get to see the well oiled machine that is government, in action.:wink2:

 Law Enforcement/Public Safety agencies are supposed to make money? WTF? Isn't the cost/benefit metric supposed to be something besides cash intake as the benefit? :dunno:
