Golf

We should do one soon. Where are some good places with an airport and golf course in close proximity?
Salinas, California - KSNS. There’s a municipal golf course that borders the airport. Don’t know much about it, but it looks pretty flat and open.

Wow, small world. Had a great stay. Have a very good friend who's a members at the Honors Course.
Had a pretty exciting arrival. A National Guard Blackhawk landed right before me. Note to self, never land near a helicopter with blades that are still spinning. Nice airport and good tailwinds at 9k back to FIN.
Awesome! Yeah those birds put out some intense wake!

4Y4 in Norther Lower Peninsula. Runway ends at the clubhouse.

I think @Huckster79 bought a place there.

There's a 12 hole, par 37 course right next to 26N. You won't find me on it, though - I'd look like this if I did:

Kinderton CC is right around the corner from W63. Then we have good restaurants a few minutes away. The lake. An artisan milkshake shop that somehow made milkshakes you need a straw, spoon, fork, knife and spork to eat. A pub. A local brewery right on the waterfront. A new wine and cigar bar. And a Hardee's, good for a breakfast biscuit, but don't go later in the day, that's when the B-team works and the service is horrible. A gas station with fried chicken, also overlooking the lake.

Was just going to mention French Lick. Stay at the resort, your lady can get a spa day while you play golf!
If you think flying is an expensive hobby, check the Spa prices at French Lick Resort. OTOH, GF and I are going there in May for her birthday.

‘Semi-private’……?

‘Semi-private’……?

I don't know what they mean by that. They always let me in. Maybe because the pool is members only? The course is definitely open to all, unless there is some kind of tournament going.

Bonus, a recent tornado took out a bunch of trees myself and many others may or may not have hit in the past. Eff those trees, man.

Ross Creek Landing golf course is one of the Bear Trace courses Tennessee built. Really great course in the middle of nowhere BUT the Clifton airport (M29) runs along holes 6 & 7. They will come get you in a golf cart.

I mean technically goose creek (28A) is right on a course but it's like a 4 minute flight for me lol. 28 minutes in a 172.

My hardest problem is getting the ball through the blades of the windmill.

Years ago two of my coworkers added me as an alternate on their golf league. I told them I had no clue, but after a bucket of balls at the driving range and 9 holes (I finished with the same number of balls that I started with but I'm fairly certain they weren't the same ones) that remains the only time I've played on a real course. Never got called up to play.

Semi-private means you can buy a membership, but the public can also just get a time and pay a greens fee. Public or muni means anyone can play. In semi-private the members can usually book times further in advance and may or may not pay greens fees each time they play.

Golf isn't like flying. You don't have to be good at it to enjoy it more than once.

I bought my first plane from a guy at Goose Creek

About a year ago I landed on the driving range here to pick up a patient. Never even knew this place existed. One of the most beautiful courses I’ve ever seen.

Yes we did, we have just shy of 4 acres on the North East side of the runway. It looks like a very nice course and club house.

We were going to build a getaway up there, but are now leaning against as we may be buying my parents home on a lake near home, not for sure yet, but looking possible over the next couple years, so we may be selling the lot as those talks happen...

But we do have the land there, camping isn't technically allowed, so I couldn't host a big camp out, but if there was a group that wanted to do a golf get together, I'd be happy to do what I can to host or facilitate. I'm not a golfer myself but if no flying is to be done afterwards I could golf, drink a few adult beverages and blame my pathetic play on the suds... :). There is plenty of air bnb places within the development. It doesn't feel like a development as it is sprawled out over miles and is mostly woods, but there's plenty of places for rent for a night or an official camp ground. The campground or an airbnb wouldn't be walkable from the airport/goflcourse but I'm sure arrangements could be made if a group wanted to put something together...

If you're serious about golf the courses at Big Cedar can't be beat. I think 4 out the 5 are under the approach end of 14 at BBG. They are pricey but absolutely worth the trip if you like difficult tour quality courses. These days I'd rather fly than golf.
