Who here plays golf on regular basis? I realize I should have more hobbies than flying and now that my ratings are out of the way, I’ve decided to try and get back into swinging the sticks. I was on the golf team in high school, but man it’s been awhile since I’ve swung golf clubs regularly.

After I finished up with my student this morning, I went to the driving range. I’m a bit out of touch, but it’s coming back to me. Going to play nine holes on Sunday afternoon.

Tried forever to get PoA fly in golf events going. Eventually myself, @Deelee and @RDUPilot met up a few times in a few locations and had a blast.
We should do one soon. Where are some good places with an airport and golf course in close proximity?

INTERESTING you should ask that. I asked the creator of flightsforbites to create an app that you can search for X within Y distance of all airports (such as show me golf course within 5 miles of all airports). Until we get that delivered, it’s old skool googling for now.

I was down to a 1-2 handicap when I was playing twice a week. I just don't have time to play anymore where I find it enjoyable. Too much other stuff going on. For me low scores = enjoyment. Otherwise I'm frustrated, and it's not enjoyable. If I could free up time to go out twice a week and hit the range and get my average back in the mid 70's I'd be golfing again.

if you're going to look, start with courses in the mountains. sequoya national is one if my favorite courses, it's amazing mountain golf but they've gotten crazy expensive. but it's also right near the casino so it makes for a great weekend getaway.

Just gonna throw it out there... My home airfield and I've golfed there multiple times.
(The golf course is, I believe, actually owned by the airport authority)
It's a nice spot. I get to shank my drives while I watch PPL students butcher their final to 02L/R.

I think we should go back to Kentucky Dam instead of RR for this very reason. If only RR had a course…

Joint Base Andrews has an airport and 4 golf courses. But, I don't know that I would try to fly in there.

I play a game with sticks and balls that loosely resembles golf. I figure if I play steadily, I might be able to play my age in about 25 years.

Played a bit in college; enjoyed it but never got good at it. Teresa & I played a few times after we were married, but it's probably been 15 years. I've been trying to talk her into getting back into it. Lots of the places we go to on our trip have courses.

Cmi has a course. I pick up golf balls in front of my hangar every time I'm there. Maybe I should take my clubs to the airport and practice driving them back onto the course

More to the SE, French lick, IN has several courses and the hotel/casino will pick you up at the airport.

Fair, I should say ‘y’all’.

Anyway, it would be a good incentive for me to come

riiiiiiiiiiight lol

we've talked about playing a round during rr but it's never happened and honestly that would kind of separate the group for a good portion of one of the days. we can plan a separate golf outing. and by we of course I mean you :)

I know these congregations all seem to happen on that side of the Miss but just in case... :)

UAO, Aurora OR is where Vans demos their RV aircraft. The adjacent golf course is within walking distance and offers a toothsome lunch in their cafe.

I've played a round of golf maybe thrice, so unqualified to comment on the quality of their links. The quality of their iced tea is top notch, however, and the club sammich is quite decent.

Sounds nice! But that would sure be a looooong flight to go play golf! ;)

You lack vision ;) Why even have airplanes if we don't fly them?

I say this with all of the conviction of never having made any social gathering east of Sedona :D

I played regularly for about 10 years, but finally gave it up. For one, I couldn’t afford the money and time to be good at golf and to keep flying. I was not going to improve my game without taking lessons from a pro (and even at a municipal nine-hole course the hourly cost for lessons was a lot more than CFIs charged), and without playing weekly.

I did actually start enjoying golf a lot more when my regular partner and I stopped keeping score. Neither of us belonged to any association, didn’t have a handicap to track, didn’t play against others, and didn’t take it seriously. No requirement to keep score, really. (We did follow etiquette by not slowing play for the folks behind us, and we behaved properly.)

Gotta say, though, my best game was a 72.

At a par-31 nine hole.

I’m in Southeast Georgia. There are loads of golf courses around here to play. Although I haven’t played much lately, I’ll be glad to show you how to lose a new Titleist, as well as help shuttle folks around

Golf is like everything else ,getting more expensive I prefer to use that money on the airplane.

Following, wouldn’t mind trying a golf fly-in, mind you, I’d probably hit the ball backwards, but as long as I can hold my beer I guess that’s good enough.

Played bogey golf for quite a while but gave it up years ago. Gave away my clubs when I sold the house and moved to a condo two years ago.

There’s a muni course adjacent to Lunken KLUK.

St. Simons Island has golf courses right under the airport. I'd be down for a trip there. $20 to park the plane which I know boils some blood, but then there's also Southern Soul BBQ. I stayed there Monday night on my way to TN to visit a golf buddy.
Here's another option that might be a bit more economical Fly, Stay and Golf

Hey sorry to miss you at FGU earlier. We closed for the holiday. I drove by on the ramp right after you fired up this morning. I hope your experience was a good one.

Wow, small world. Had a great stay. Have a very good friend who's a members at the Honors Course.
Had a pretty exciting arrival. A National Guard Blackhawk landed right before me. Note to self, never land near a helicopter with blades that are still spinning. Nice airport and good tailwinds at 9k back to FIN.

Well, after flying, golf is my second hobby. Being semi-retired I have a lot more time for both. Only problem is both require good weather, so I have to decide which to do on any given day. I know first world problem! :)

Was just going to mention French Lick. Stay at the resort, your lady can get a spa day while you play golf!

I nominate schmookeeg for west coast POA social director! Any seconds?

Used to play a lot when I was in the military. About a 7-8 handicap then. Shot a 73 at Parris Island once. Haven’t played in years but been thinking about taking it up again.

I was just about to ask the same thing. Can you really play a round of golf in an hour? :)
I've done 9 holes in under an hour while walking. Of course the guy I was with and I both shot under 40. Also did 18 in under 2 hours, but we both shot under 75. In both cases there was no one in front of us holding us up.

There is a course right off the departure end of 31 at my home airport (FFC) here in Peachtree City GA. Planterra Club

I don't play anymore, but I'll drive the golf cart and bartend.

PS - Aircraft Spruce is also walking distance from my hangar.
