Not approved software for STC installations just quite yet. 3.42 is the approved software on the equipment list.

Great catch - thanks. Odd - why would they release a Service Bulletin about this new version but not have it approved yet? I thought the idea of a Service Bulletin was a non mandatory but approved update.

“You have a problem, we have the fix, but you can’t have it. Have a nice day” :)

Update: The nice customer service person at Garmin thinks that it's ready and approved to be installed. So... I think I'll reach out to the local avionics shop at the field and get their take on it. Not a critical issue, but I'd like to chase this down. FWIW, it does appear to be covered under warranty. (Yeah, my local avionics repair shop charges for software updates).

So is it just the lateral analog nav thing that it got a SB for? It doesn't really say "We're issuing this SB because..."

See Post #2. Not critical / no AD. I gave this to our local Avionics shop and he’s looking into it. Interesting that it’s warranty reimbursable.

Yeah, that's what's weird. They normally only do that when they screw something up bad.

And….. the local avionics shop said he hasn’t seen the STC yet, so he can’t install. And he says GI 275 updates have a history of being “clunky”, so don’t be one of the first. So maybe later this year.

I wonder if they say "it took us an hour but Garmin only reimbursed us for half an hour. Here's your half of the bill."

Maybe. He’s a Garmin dealer and isn’t a fan of Garmin. If fact, suggested I get a JPL instead. “Garmins are difficult to install and more difficult to get to work right”.

They usually say how many hours of labor they will reimburse you for.

Garmin's "reimbursement" is also a little disingenuous... they credit the dealer account at some rate, they don't send a check for shop rate. So you basically get a little off on your next order, but no direct cash flow. Probably doesn't matter to the big shops, but to the smaller dealers I've worked with/talked to, it's less ideal.

Look for the thread about JPI users trying to get access to their own data logs...

Garmin isn't perfect but there's a reason they're on top.
