Garmin 530 with WAAS

Plus, it seems like most installs are getting a FlightStream or other Connext device which helps you rely on the touchscreen even less.
Interesting. Besides the initial flight plan load, how else does Connext do that?

Initial flight plan load, flight plan changes, plus having a second screen (your EFB) meaning you don't have to switch screens on the panel as much if you don't want to. Throw a long-range view on the GPS, put the HSI into "HSI Map" mode for the "stuff that's gonna kill me in the next 5 minutes" view (traffic and terrain within 10-20 miles), and anything else you need can be done on the EFB. Tune radio frequencies using the knobs on the GTN, and you'll hardly ever touch the thing.

GMA350c audio panel with Telligence voice commands is another way to avoid the touchscreen.

The install cost doesn’t translate at all for a future upgrade.

Yep. Arinc is dead because all the new stuff is Canbus. The only option someone with a dead 530 has is to either get another or get a Dynon 540, everything else becomes a slips slope.

The stuff that started on the experimental side (G5, G3x) is CANBUS, but the newest of the new stuff (e.g. GI275, GNC215) is Ethernet.

I believe the GI 275 can do either CANBUS or Ethernet. Regardless, the point is that a GNS is going to to have more and more problems connecting to things in the future.

GNS uses serial. Which is why Garmin made the choice to make the GTN not backwards compatible - it just needed a higher capacity network option.

Depends on how you define "do". Yes, it talks CANBUS in order to drive the GFC500 but this is because the GFC500 came from the experimental side. I would consider that a backwards compatibility interface, like being able to take RS232 from an SL30 or ARINC from a GNS. All other data movement is primarily Ethernet.

Copy that.

Ethernet! I had no idea. Thats wild.

So, CANBUS. How is it Canada came up with this protocol?
