Flying to NYC...

There are a couple of seaplane bases. Doubt you can anchor there though maybe?

Since someone already brought this back from the dead.

6N7 is right on 23rd street, you need a 3 blade prop and a checkout before you can operate there

FRG is about a 30 minute train ride to Penn Station. Try Talon Air on the field. It's got the cheapest gas and I hear the facilities are nice.

We just returned from NYC. We have been there for the weekend and did the Hudson River Exclusion once at night (Saturday) and once during the day (Sunday). We flew into MMU, had a rental car and drove to Jersey City to catch a train. While gas wasn't cheap, it was under $ 6 / gallon at FTC. If you purchase 20 gallons they will waive the ramp fee ($30 or $35), but you will have to pay a overnight fee ($20 for a C172). Morrison Tower was super nice and we had a really good time. We would go there again.

Even though the weather was awesome, we think the exclusion was not extra ordinary busy - we decided to fly in the corridor between 1000' and 1299' though.

Last year we flew to FRG in our Archer, stayed at the Town Place Suites and took the LIRR to the US open. Had a great time and it wasn't too expensive. We used Sheltair. Hotel provided shuttle to the train stations, Sheltair gave us rides to/from the hotel. Don't remember exactly the parking fee but it was very reasonable.

If you're coming from the Boston area, +1 to FRG. I do it regularly and park at Sheltair. They'll give you a ride to the LIRR, then it's about 50m into Penn Station ($9.50 off-peak one way). $15/night tiedown.

HPN is a decent alternative, but costs a bit more to overnight and a bit further to the train.

TEB is closest to the city, but coming from the NE, you might spend another 30m being vectored around NJ to get in, and if you mis-time your departure, be delayed 60-90m leaving. The TETERBORO ONE Departure off 24 is a good workout tho'

Attempting to revive this thread from May. GF is working in Brooklyn and am planning visit in the next week or two. Did those of you going to the US Open end up at FRG?
