If an engine is nearing or past TBO but is still running right (good compression, no oil consumption, etc.) is there anything a pilot can do to help delay the inevitable overhaul? For example, would using a lower power setting or perhaps leaning a bit less buy you extra time? I realize that how far an engine can go past recommended TBO is largely based on how well it was maintained and how often it was flown during its lifespan. But when it DOES reach the TBO, I’m just curious if there’s anything that would help get a little extra life out of the engine (in addition to the routine maintenance and usage).
