After 26 years of not flying I'm finally back at it. Medical done, flight review done, it's a good day.

If you don't mind answering, how many hours of dual did it take?

Great work! How was the process getting back in? Difficult or like riding a bike?

To answer those who asked how much dual it took for me to get signed off, 20 hours. That's the short answer.

Here's the longer answer. I last flew 26 years ago in September, 1991, money, time and little kids got in the way. I always wanted to get back to it and started getting serious a few years ago about it. I knew my medical might be an issue so I contacted Dr Bruce then to see if I could get issued. After reviewing my records and talking to my doc Bruce thought I had a good chance at getting issued. Unfortunately life got in the way again. I finally decided to go for it at the end of July. I went on a flight with an instructor to be sure the desire was still there, it was, with a vengeance . So I scheduled medical tests that I needed for the med exam, that took a while to get scheduled and completed, I finally had my med exam a few weeks ago. My medical arrived on Friday. Meanwhile I had decided to continue training, most of the skills came back quickly, my only real issue was landing, took a while for that to come back. I finally got proficient, then had to wait for the medical.

Aopa said 1 hour of dual per year off, I beat that, but I thought it would take less time than it did, so that was humbling. But I have a great instructor and it was fun getting back. The plan now is to fly, also working on getting checked out in an SR 20, then probably an IFR ticket.

To anyone considering getting current again, I highly recommend going for it. I wish I had done it years ago.

I'm impressed it only took 20 hours, I would have thought it would be more.

I'm assuming there was some ground study in there as well.

That number was flight time only. Also had a couple hours of ground plus pre and post briefing. I ask a lot of questions. Plus I studied the Jeppesen private manual from beginning to end during this time. That time doesn’t count ;)

Congratulations. It's 35 years since I've flown, so I hope I'm not up for 35 dual. That's expensive.
