30 days? I can solve it in 30 minutes. Just have everyone put a dry cleaning bag over their head for 30 minutes.

    Boom. Done.

Edit: read the article. I've always been a big vitamin D milk consumer. Gallon or more a week usually.

    Now for the real argument:

    is it pronounced vih-TAH-min
    or V(EYE)-tuh-min

My family started taking vitamin D supplements about 5 months ago. This gentleman has some interesting evidence of the benefits...

I'm encouraged to see this disclaimer in the link:

"This is not 'proven' or 'evidence-based'"

That is the safest assumption to make when reading anything on the Mercola site; I'm pleased to see it finally getting spelled out.

Aren't there different vitamin Ds? I take D3 to help pretend that Portland isn't a gloomy overcast sh*thole. I wonder if that's why Oregon is low on the covid trauma list. :D

Lady I got my dog from was a nurse before kids. Her 3 yr old daughter and now her 5 month old son both have cystic fibrosis. You would assume they'd be at a pretty high risk. She said they're really not. And she says that because of the high doses of vitamin D as well as a different cytokine response normal people have they haven't seen people with CF adversely effected like you'd expect.

I'm just a dumb welder hopefully exposed to too much UV-c light that the skin cancer will get me before COVID.

My vit D was looow...doc but me on high dose pills for a while. Now I take daily D3 and I have not been sick for the past 3 years. I think chronic vit d deficiency is the underlying cause of most illness and cancers. Ive been much healthier since getting my levels up to where they should be. And I spend ALOT of time outdoors too. I'm Italian so I need more time outdoors.

If something as simple as a daily does of Vitamin D were really capable of warding off the 'rona it would have a dozen peer reviewed studies showing it and appeared upon the cover of every major media outlet by now. Sadly, kooks who think they know it have a pretty big bully pulpit in the internet.

I would normally agree with this, but in the 8 or 9 or so months that this has been around, there does not seem to be majority scientific consensus around the susceptibilities/causes and preventions (I’m not talking about masks, treatments, or vaccines).

Right now, taking the wise-road to staying healthy is best, vitamins or otherwise.

We are all test-pilots flying the same Corona plane in different conditions taking different ADM risks. Some will crash and burn, some will eject, and the rest will land safely. Buckle-up and fly right, that’s my mode.

You'd be wrong there. While most of the early stuff leveraged known data on the previous SARS (because this was what was available), the peer-reviewed press is full of COVID-related papers, including transmission and infectious routes.

The answer is nobody has hit on a "magic pill" nor is one.

The Vitamin-D link is very tenuous. A lot of it is merely correlations, not between people with and without COVID vs. their vitamin D levels, but infection rates in populations compared to the populations general Vitamin D route. Even if you bought the research, it's a far cry to say that whacking up everybody with a megadose of vitamin D is going to put a dent in COVID infection rates or morbidity.

Can't make money off an expensive cure in less prosperous countries either. Place like that would be an interesting place to test the vitamin D hypothesis.

Don't know why that is surprising. The cloth masks haven't been touted as effective against preventing you from getting COVID, it's to prevent you from spreading yours around.
If you want to protect yourself, you're going to need something that can get down to the microdroplet level and seals well.

Yup, there is absolutely no relationship between protecting others and protecting yourself.

Not at all, but it isn't the black plague. It isn't airborne Ebola. The 24 hour news cycle is one of the worst if not THE WORST thing to ever happen to this world. Most of what they "report" is utter BS and sensationalism. They are driven by ratings and subsequently sensationalize every thing and expound upon it for hours on end.

BTW you aren't helping by exaggerating the situation. Your wife is NOT witnessing deaths DAILY in otherwise healthy people that simply doesn't jive with the facts. Can healthy people get the virus and die? Yes. Do they? It is rare and you know it. If you don't believe me ask the CDC.

As someone who regularly publishes peer reviewed scholarly articles, I think this public perception of peer review is a bit overrated. I don't know about vitamin D and covid, but even if it were true, it would be very difficult to get it past reviewers for the same reason why you assumed that it might be a scam. Reviewers are people too, and are influenced by current trends and news media just like everyone else. Many things in medicine comes down to common sense. There are thousands of studies on obesity, diabetes and heart disease, but the majority of them can be cured by eating healthy and exercising. The lawyers may argue that diet and exercise has not been proven to cure heart disease, which may have some truth as well.
