Anyone seen a $5 footlong lately? I went into a Subway last week and it was $5.25, I thought it was a fluke because of the location of the store, but I went in today in IA and it was also $5.25. Hmmmmmmm?

Wonder if that's all done?

Yes - I really am a cheap basta.... Excuse me I have to go collect the unused toothpaste from inside the cap.

I know a guy that is so cheap he steals a years supply of toilet paper from the porta potties at OSH. :rolleyes2:

I haven't seen that deal around here in quite a while. Most of them are closer to $7.00 lately.

They probably did away with the $5 footlong promo because some DIPSTICK sued over the fact that they were only 11.5 inches.

I wouldn't care if they were 3 dollars. Subway is still crap. ;)

The subs where not that good ,but the jingle was catchy.

I know they don't have these at Hardee's but Carl's Jr has had a 1/2 lb patty burger for many years called "The Six Dollar Burger."

Guess what, they renamed it. Guess why.

I wouldn't go to Subway if their garbage sandwiches were free. Find a local sandwich shop that bakes their own bread and uses quality meats, who cares if it costs a few bucks more, at least you aren't dumping awful chemicals into your gullet.

They used to have them at hardees

Carls Jr and Hardee's are one and the same, just depends upon what area you're in. Here they're Hardee's.

I very seldom do a Subway but when I do it will only be at one particular location. They double the meat and cheese on EVERY sandwich. This particular location's slogan is "doubled up, no extra charge" (or something like that). It's not too bad of a sandwich when it's not all bread like every other location.

Hardys and carls jr have different menus though. I can't get a double western bacon at a Hardys and it makes me sad.

Heck, even national chains like Jimmy John's and Jersey Mike's do that. I haven't had Subway in about two years. Or, if I have, it's because it was one of three options on a road trip pit stop. There is nothing "fresh" about that place.

They are NOW. Hardee's got bought out by Imasco which through a number of bone-headed decisions ran a pretty solid regional chain into the ground. Hardees one signature feature: the charco grill was discontinued. Imasco continued the idiocy by buying up the very successful Roy Rogers chain from Mariott and turning them into the moribund Hardees restaurants with even less success.

Carl Karcher (founder and then head of CKE: Carl's) bought the remains and was quite frank in how stupid Imasco was in the whole thing. The last few remaining Roy's were spun out. The Hardees were homogenized with Carl's so as Tim says, they are now just Hardee's in name only.

With the exception of the one at the corporate headquarters, every Subway is a franchise. Some are better than others and they all set their own prices. As Mitch Hedberg says, "Prices and Particiation Vary."

Hamburgers? Nope. We got spaghetti ... and blankets. And we are not affiliated with that clown.

I was a regular at Subway as there were no decent real sub shops around my office. Then Jersey Mike's moved in, and while it's somewhat bland in comparison, it's better than subway. Nothing like Tastee Subs in Edison, NJ.

Good hate going for Subway. You folks are sooooo superior! Hope it makes ya feel better about yourself.

Glad to know there's at least one store with the $5 still avail.

JJ's is great, and freaky fast! Free smells....

I don't feel superior, I just value my health more than saving $2 on a sandwich.

Can someone tell me what makes say a turkey sub at subway unhealthy for you vs some other sandwich shop without using words like "natural" or "organic" or generically saying "chemicals"?

This is a big pet peeve of mine. "Natural" doesn't mean anything. There are deadly poisons that are all natural. "Chemicals" doesn't mean anything either. Water is a chemical, just like sugar, salt, plutonium, and anything else. If you can't say what chemical is bad and why it's bad then you don't know.

Oh and "processed". Guess what any kind of cooking, chopping, grinding, etc of any food is processing. Doesn't mean it's bad for you.

I'm open to having my mind changed but I need to hear the specific thing about the food that does the specific thing to your body. If you can't do that then you don't know what you're talking about and should stop with the smugness.

I can say that it's not my health that keeps me from Subway. It's the fact that there are two or three better, fresher options around. If I only have five dollars in my pocket, I may go to Subway if I'm hungry enough for a footlong. Otherwise, it's worth the extra premium to have a sandwich that's undoubtedly fresher and better tasting (IMHO).

May be owned by the same company, but not the same menus.

Nope, they have EXACTLY the same menus. Any variation is store-to-store (even with in the Hardees or Carls brand) not brand to brand. The websites for the two are word for word identical other than the substitution of the brand name.

This I totally get. Here in Eau Claire we have a lot of options too. However, I've spent a lot of time in tiny towns or on the road where the choices are Mc Donald's, Hardee's, or subway.... in which case subway probably is the better choice.

Or sometimes the Subway is right by where I'm at and I don't want to drive clear across town for something different.

I have patronized both chains. The menus are different. I don't care what the website says, they are not serving the same menu. Probably a regional variation no doubt, but they are different.

Well, if slamming a "sandwich" that's all bread and no fillings makes me superior...then so be it.

That's why I like (only) this one franchise. They double the meat, double the cheese, all day long, every day. It's still just an okay sandwich but it's in a small town with not many other choices so it works when I'm over there and hungry.

Otherwise, enjoy your bread sandwich. At least that's what I've been given at every other location I've been to...and will never return to.

I do not get a bread sandwich I get a salad sandwich. Just load up on the none meat sides to go with your 2 or 3 pieces of meat.

I like subway a lot but something about the bread irritates my stomach. I have a Jimmy John's nearby and their veggie dub is outstanding.

Recently switched to the "un wich" lettuce wrap version.
Good stuff.

And to the OP. Screw you. I've been humming that Damn jingle all day

I went on an unwich kick for a while. Those aren't bad. I troubled myself enough to look up the nutritional info and build a sandwich (and unwich version of it) on their website one day. I about fell over when I saw the sodium content. I should have known better!

Maybe it was the "yoga mat" chemical that they just decided to eliminate last month. It probably had your stomach doing this:

When it hadn't been properly trained for it!

:goofy:

How do we know it it's not a sandwich chemical added to yoga mats? :)

The bread doesn't have a preservative in it, but it does have a fair amount of Gluten. If you are sensitive, the gluten amount can cause issues.

It's a small world after all,,, it's a small world after all. It's a small world after all - it's a small, small, world.

My recent road food solution is bananas, nuts, Larabars, and occasionally a chocolate bar. And coffee of course. Ain't that hard to be well fed on the road without eating at subway and worse.

Subway isn't my favorite, but they are on every corner around here, so I eat there when I am in a hurry. It is definitely healthier than McDonalds.

Most people with true Celiac understand that gluten is a wheat protein, and bread tends to be made with wheat. ;) He probably would have figured all this out by now. Subway - eat fresh.

Are you saying there's such a thing as a healthy sub shop? :dunno:

I haven't eaten at Subway since I got away from eating processed foods. Before then, I considered Subway inferior to most Mom and Pop sandwich shops. But I certainly never considered the Mom and Pop shops to serve health food. In fact, in that respect, Subway probably had the edge simply because they were less generous with the ingredients.

Honestly I've never seen a Subway be stingy on the veggies. They'll heap them on so thick they can barely close the bread to cut it, if you ask for them. I love black olives and they'll load ya up on those to the point of ridiculousness if you ask.

True and ironically I do the same with black olives. They do charge me for the double avocado, however.

Friends don't let friends eat at chain restaurants. Ever.

With so many wonderful mom & pop small businesses to choose from, why would anyone eat that stuff?
