This list here doesn't look to overly weighted toward communism.

You left out the Chinese "Great Leap Forward" and "Cultural Revolution". That shifts the C.G. a little bit. A lot, actually.

But, if people choose that form of government, that is up to them.

Rarely do "people choose" totalitarian governments. It is usually chosen for them by a small group of thugs with large guns.

In 1972 I was all of 14 years old, and in a private military school. I was walking home in my ROTC uniform when a green VW with flowers painted all over it pulled up next to me. I suspect it was girls inside, hard to tell at that time period, but they threw beer cans at me and screamed, "baby killer" several times then drove off.

I was 10 in 72, I vividly remember walking through Boston a year or two earlier and seeing people screaming at a couple guys in uniform, I probably was 8 or 9 and I remember thinking you had to be a real ahole to do that. One woman spit at one of the guys.
