Feelings abotu Taco Bell...

I run through for a quick bite a lot... especially when they were doing their dollar drinks/grillers happy hour thing.

Lot of hot days I came home after getting drilled on stalls or landings or whatever we were working on that day and I'd get one of their slushies(whatever their name is) and a beefy nacho griller.

Sometimes I get a couple of tacos or something. It's not fine dining obviously but if you want to grab something tasty really quick it isn't bad.

Was stationed in Lemoore, CA for one tour and Ridgecrest aka China Lake for another tour but have been down to San Diego and Riverside for stuff.

Never tried In n Out Burger when I was there. Me thinks Hardee's is the midwest/east coast version of Carl's Jr.

David
In and out is bar none my favorite fast food place. Probably not even in the same universe as good for you but man is it delicious!

Been to China Lake exactly once and did some ERAU classes on Edwards AFB. Not military, but I was in a military family when I was young and the DEERS(sp?) registration for me when they did the background check had a pic of me as an 8-10 year old. The gate guards always did a double take each time I had to flash the pass

We have Taco Bell across the street from work, I usually eat there once or twice per year, about the same as the Burger King next to it.:dunno: Since TB serves Pepsi, it's drops a little on my list of places that I shouldn't eat, but sometimes do.:D I do buy their bottled hot sauce for when we make tacos at home. :D

Haven't been to a Taco Bell in a decade and I don't see that changing. We have a great hole in the wall authentic Mexican place that is a 5 min walk from the house.

My Chipotle thread got unexpected conversation about the chain. How do ya'll feel about Taco Bell then? :D

David

I eat there occasionally if I'm not in SoCal, usually I wish I hadn't by the time I'm done eating.

Usually I go eat at TB when I have run out of packets of sauce and need to restock. "Yeah, I need 3 crunch tacos and a small coke, and could you put that in the biggest bag you have? Thanks"

Love Taco Bell. It certainly does prove the saying "you can make anything yummy if you just put enough hot sauce on it." Still, one of the better dining values. Only two things I can eat but I like both of them. I eat there a couple times year.

I'd eat there zero if we had some of the great tiendas they do in Southern California. But we don't, so I still eat at the Bell.

Only do Taco Bell once in awhile, usually if my flight comes back late at night and just want to grab something right outside base to tide me over until I get home.

Can we talk about In-and-Out instead?

Best fast food I have ever had.

Ones I go to frequently are Chipotle, Qdoba, and Jimmy Johns.

First thing I always get when I go back home to the midwest is White Castle. God I love those sliders.

Normally unless I'm desperate for something quick to eat, or just a snack I'll eat it, but definitely not my favorite compared to others. Chipotle is my favorite between the common fast style Mexican chains.

We used to have a real SoCal Roberto's here in Ft Lauderdale then CVS bought out the corner so they could have another drug store in a 5 block radius.:mad::mad:

I rarely do fast food in general (or any processed food, actually), but Taco Bell is one that I'll use in a pinch. I wouldn't call it "healthy," but I suspect it's probably less-unhealthy than most.

National fast-food chains in general have pretty good QA in terms of contamination and so forth, but that doesn't mean the food is necessarily healthy. It just means that you probably won't get ptomaine poisoning from it. Taco Bell's food is at least a bit less processed than most.

Mojo Burrito and an authentic Mexican place by Sportsmans Wearhouse on Lee Hwy are my go to Mexican places around here.

You get what you pay for. Taco Bell is cheap, fast food that is filling, and high in carbs. It is aimed at high school, and college kids that don't have much money, and can metabolically tolerate high calorie, filling meals.

Nothing wrong with Taco Bell, in the big picture, but you have to realize what you are getting when you go in there, and set your expectations accordingly.

Totally, I try to limit my fast food intake in general. Unless I'm absolutely desperate for a quick snack, I try to stay away.

This really struck me funny this morning because last night my wife and I were driving home and passed a Taco Bell which has been on that corner for, oh, maybe three decades. I commented it had been there a long time. She said "I still like their greasy, gross tacos. I shouldn't, but I do." It was almost dinner time and so I pulled into the Taco Bell closer to home. When she figured out why I was in the turn lane she laughed out loud and said "Are you going to Taco Bell?" I admitted that I was and asked if she wanted to go elsewhere. She finally said no. We went in and each had a Cantina Power Burrito. She had chicken and I had steak. Not bad for fast food.

Probably our first visit in a year or more.

John

Maybe not the best name for it considering it's Taco Bell. Then again, maybe it is.

Truth in advertising... :D

Although, for us it was not.

Try Taqueria Jalisco on Rossville and La Altenia on Main St.

White Castle. God I love those sliders.

White Castle is about the only fast food I can't eat.

I like Taco Bell, but I'm cheap so I can't recall having ever ordered anything over $2 from their menu. I like their mini chicken quesadillas and the frito burritos off the $1 menu.

Someone else mentioned Subway. If it was feasible I'd have Subway every day of the week. If I was king I'd have my Subway sandwiches made with Jimmy John's bread.

Inn & Out is "okay", it used to be on my rotation schedule but there is a new chain here called Habit Burger. I can have Habit Burger every day I think. And they do a good job with the lettuce wrap thing.

White Castle is pretty much a love it or hate it type of place from what I've observed. I'll have it every once in a while, but if I have it too often it might ruin the nostalgia factor from my childhood.

Taco Bell I go to mainly in order to remind myself why I don't go there.

In and out burger only got popular because of their bumper stickers. For a fast food burger I prefer Steak & Shake.

Why are there five holes in a White Castle hamburger?

Takes five bullets to kill a rat.

We're headed to Chipotle tonight. Get the tofu burrito and you get a free burrito. Heck, I even like the tofu. They do a far, far better job of it than I. And it is a very rare thing for any restaurant to do vegetarian food better than the kitchens of Steinholme.

Moe's did a nice job on tofu when they had tofu. Discontinued here. :-(

I also like the grilled very firm tofu at the local Korean restaurant.

No thanks. I seriously dislike Mexican food. When I was in Mexico last month I ate at the McDonalds most of the time.

I did risk it once, and went to a working neighborhood, had four tacos and two beers at a food stand for about $2 USD. It was pretty good, although the likelihood of being able to eat there much without getting sick is quite slim. I'm not a germ freak by any means but I decided I was only going to push my luck once. The operators hands were covered in blood the entire time. Raw meet was thrown on top of the cooked meat. What you got was slightly cooked and dripping in blood. Came out of a cooler that I can only presume had been sitting there for a week which had no ice in it. The change I was returned also had blood on it. That guy ran that stand 7 days a week from sunrise to about midnight. His 5 year old kids busted their ass all day running the knife.

One of these days I'll try the tofu at Chipotle. I like tofu in asian food. It just seems a little weird in other food, but I don't mind trying.

While in Mexico City I made a game of finding the nastiest eateries for my lunch. I was actually eating dead animals at that point, but I could not attest to the source of the dead animal at most of these places. The funniest thing was the worse the place the better the food.

I was young and I must of had an adamantine constitution. I doubt I'd try that now. But I love Mexican food whenever I can get it.

You should love Chipotle, it comes out of Colorado. Like I said, I thought they did a nice job of the tofu, and that's a very rare thing for my to say about any restaurant.

I do like Chipotle and even know the founder in a business sort of way. Those guys eat their own food for lunch even when the eye of the public is not watching. At least they did at one time. I haven't tried the sofritas, though. I think it's fairly new.

I'm going to Taco Bell right now. I'm tired of people interrupting me at my desk the last few days. It's time to start chemical warfare. LOL.

oh man, isn't that banned by some convention?

Taco Hell, smells bad going in, smells worse coming out...

Seems like being in the snow storm on the east coast is not such a bad thing after all. :)

Well today I tried some lettuce wrapped tacos from the new Mexican place that got all the reviews. I had two carnitas and two adobado tacos, wrapped in butter lettuce. I would say I liked them more than I would have like them in the microdot sized corn tortillas they use, but four wasn't enough. Six would have been about right. At two bucks a pop, lunch is an expensive proposition at an "economical" place. So I spent eight bucks and walked away hungry. Five bucks at the cheap place (which is nearly as good) would have stuffed me.
