My Chipotle thread got unexpected conversation about the chain. How do ya'll feel about Taco Bell then? :D

David

I ate there a lot as a starving student. Haven't been there in years. Too many good real Mexican places that are a better deal.

Had a 7-layer burrito last night.

Karen and I will also split a Taco Salad (no meat) when road tripping.

Decent vegetarian fare.

Thanks.

I did not know that.

 Well played sir.

If you put a TB taco and dog food on the ground the dog will crap on the taco and eat the dog food.... or at least it should.

What they call "cheese" the EPA calls a chemical waste.
What they call "meat" comes from soybeans.
What they call "employees" comes from work release.

I like it. Of course it's not the kind of place I would go for a sit down meal (unless traveling), but for fast food, it's good. I usually get the Grilled Stuffed Burrito, and it's quite delicious and filling.

Karen loves the stuff. Too much of it for her in college.

I think it's hilarious that they use caulking guns to assemble the "food".

McDonald's did when I worked there as a teen and they probably still do have the Mac Sauce applicators.

TB is teenager food. It has never occurred to me to eat at TB in the last 20 years.

I also bet if you put a steak on the ground, and a bunch of silage , a cow will eat the silage first. I'd rather have the steak than silage. But hey feel free to root around in a silo for some food. You are from Nebraska after all.

If somebody put a human carcass on the ground and some silage, which would you eat first?

Back to the theme of the thread, the only Mexican fast food I like is the fresh kind, where the grill it and roll it up right in front of you. Chipotle Grill and similar. It looks pretty healthy.

Last trip to Knoxville we hit Salsarita's out at Turkey Creek. Pretty good.

More a "build your own" arrangement, which is perfect for us.

I'll throw myself on the sword and admit I like Taco Bell. I also like fruit cakes sold at Christmas.

I haven't been in a TB for 20 years either, but I regularly visit Subway, which others have decided was worse than industrial sewage, so -- to each his own. I don't process animal fats well, and I think that's my issue. Also don't visit McD, or Wendys. I was in a Burger King a few weeks back when they had a promo for something called Yumbo ham and cheese and a fish sand combo. I got it without mayo and it was pretty good. I think high in salt, but still good.

I can't say I have any feelings about Taco Bell. There is usually a better choice available, so I can't remember the last time I ate there.

I have a craving for Taco Bell about every three months.

I eat there then remember why it is only every three months that I crave it.

Takes that long to recover.

Some Taco Bells (Bishop, CA) are excellent because they are very fussy about quality. Some are disgusting or at least used to be. The average TB isn't good.

I do not consider TB Mexican food. That said If I am going to hit a fast food place I will pick TB about 1 every 2-3 months.
Do not consider it much worse or better the other fast food place.

In 1972 I was working construction in Long Beach, CA and this particular day I was broke and hungry. I had been to a TB once before and I knew it was cheap and that I didn't like their Bell Beefer at all.

I found enough lose change in the work truck to buy a 39cent bean burrito and a cup of water. I have never enjoyed a meal more.

We actually had one in Mono county for a while, a Taco Bell Lite installed in a gas station in Bridgeport. It was good for a while, then it became bad and eventually closed.

You don't know the difference between a dog and a cow?

Most of the menu ,is not of my taste. However in a pinch ,I have had good luck with the soft tacos.

For a while, Taco Bell used to serve breakfast and they had some great burritos with egg and stuff in them. Then they stopped doing that and I stopped going. But I would need to get a minimum of three of them to constitute a "meal", just like I'd have to get two or three burritos or a dozen tacos to get full.

I can go over to the mom and pop mini chain and get this massive burrito filled with carnitas and guacamole, and one is plenty. Plus there are the free chips and salsa. There is a new mini chain that opened up that has been written up in the local rags as really good, and they are doing tacos wrapped in butter lettuce.

Taco Bell is an unfortunate reality. I don't like it much. However, it is better than the local places here in the great white north. Having said that, I still don't eat there. So I typically make a taco run to Qdoba once every month or so. Some places just don't have good tacos unfortunately.

I'm the same way with a few places, but my timeframe is yearly.

About once a year, I get a craving for places like Taco Bell, Pizza Hut, Domino's, KFC...I'm sure I'm leaving a couple out.

Once I have my yearly meal from each place, it's out of my system (literally) and I don't feel compelled to visit again for another year.

Oh, Long John Silver's...that's another one I just thought of. It's been about a year since I ate there last, maybe I'll have that for lunch today.

Taco Bell? No thanks.

"This is a Del Taco town!"
(Heard ad nauseum on the radio in the town I grew up in, where Del Taco originated. Yermo, CA). http://www.deltaco.com/history.html

And then I moved to Shawnee, which turns out to be where Sonic originated. http://franchise.sonicdrivein.com/WhoWeAre

Totally not on purpose

The first time I had Del Taco when stationed in Calif. it became a yuck, never eat again kind of thing. Along with Carl's Jr, Hardee's and Jack in the Box.

Where were you stationed? By the restaurants it sounds like Riverside or Pt. Mugu?

In my opinion, Del Taco is better than Taco Bell (but both aren't amazing). Never had Hardees and Jack in the Box lost its luster long ago for me.

Can we talk about In-and-Out instead?

Was stationed in Lemoore, CA for one tour and Ridgecrest aka China Lake for another tour but have been down to San Diego and Riverside for stuff.

Never tried In n Out Burger when I was there. Me thinks Hardee's is the midwest/east coast version of Carl's Jr.

David

Oh now I like Carl's, it's one of my go to places. They will do lettuce wrap on your burgers.
