What’s everyone’s favorite?

For years I was strictly a beer drinker. Then I began trying different wines. Lately though, I have been obsessed with discovering my favorite bourbon. So far it’s Maker’s Mark French Oaked. Only 1 or 2 on Friday or Saturday night. I’ll sometimes sip it neat, or add a tiny splash of water. But I think it’s really great in an Old Fashioned. Or a Boulevardier

Last night though, my daughter, her husband and I worked on his giant bottle of Jameson. We made Whiskey Gingers. I gotta say that really went down well.

It figures, I graduate from one or two beers a week to enjoying a couple of cocktails on Friday night and now instead of an occasional drink cutting your risk of stroke they’re pushing the new “no amount” policy.

Mostly beer (good beer). Red wine with a nice dinner. Single malt on occasion, neat or with a drop of water. Gin and tonic on a hot summer day.

Old Fashioned for this fella.

But last weekend I made a White Irish: equal parts Irish whisky, Kahlua, and Irish cream (like Bailey’s). That’s good stuff.

Not a big fan of mixed drinks. I liike my whis-key neeeattttttt....
I knew you couldn't be wrong all the time! :cheerswine:

I recently tried a new (to me) Scotch. It's a blend of 3 single malts and I think it is every bit as good as Macallan 12 and about a third the price.

Monkey Shoulder

I'm generally a beer guy, but I've always enjoyed an Old Fashioned from time to time.

My wife is a beer and wine gal, but in the right mood she'll drink a bourbon neat, then give me a bunch of crap for being a sissy with my Old Fashioned. :p

She's right. And she sounds like a keeper.

Gosllings dark and stormy as mentioned in another thread, sazerac, and dusty Boodles gin martini here for mixed cocktails. A Meyers and tonic is also nice.

Rusty Nail. Two parts scotch whisky to one part drambuie. I tend to favor sweeter tasting whiskies though.

Back in the 80s the race team I worked for was sponsored by Lite Beer by Miller, so that is all we drank.

In the early 90s I started on PBR, (Pabst Blue Ribbon) I quit drinking about '98. In 2004 I started on red wine in a box.

Now here in Gallup around 2020 I started on Bacardi Gold Rum. 1 ounce of rum into 10 ounces of Key Lime flavored seltzer water that is sugar free, calorie free, caffeine free and sodium free, then fill the glass with ice. 2 on Friday night and 1 one Monday night. It doesn't make me feel high or anything, but it sure does relax me.

Times listed above may be off + - a year or so.

Dang, I may cheat tonight and fix myself drink...

Mint julep during the 3 weeks they're available. Bourbon the other 49 weeks.

French 75: chilled gin, lemon juice, simple syrup, topped with champagne. Named after the French WW1 artillery piece, for obvious reasons.

My poor old Aunt died an early death at age 98.

Every evening at 5pm she would put two ice cubes in a water glass and fill it to within an inch of the top with Gin. She would then splash some tonic water on top. She said the tonic water made her feel better.

One evening she received some bad news about a friend that passed away, so she had two of her tonics. She fell and broke her hip and she was gone within 2 months.
Since then, I have never put tonic water or any other pollutant in my liquor. (well, except for a couple of olives and just a tiny bit of olive juice in my vodka martini).

I've mostly been an occasional beer drinker. For a time years ago I really got into sampling important and microbrews. Prefer a brown ale.
but
for the last couple of years I've been eating a carnivore diet and don't drink much, but I started looking for something low carb besides mich ultra and similar....
I've sampled a few bourbons but so far I'm more partial to Irish whiskey (jamesons or similar), watered down with a bit of club soda or flat water. I don't know what it is but the bourbons seem too sweet or something.

I tried to like Rusty Nails, and just eventually realized that I'd just rather be drinking the Scotch neat.

I'm a Manhattan guy, for the most part, though I do branch off with Martinis and an occasional Negroni, or a G&T.

One of my favorites is a drink of my own invention, which I named the Montpelier. 2 ounces of bourbon, one of sweet vermouth, and a teaspoon or so of pure maple syrup - preferably Vermont, though I use the stuff I made myself from our back yard silver and red maples. Garnish with peppered maple-candied bacon (Glaze a strip of thick-cut bacon with maple syrup and a touch of black pepper, bake until crisp, cut a short section, and skewer it for the rim), or a flamed orange peel and brandied cherry.

Aviation cocktail… of course.

We can close the thread now.

I rarely have a mixed drink, but when I do it's usually a Manhattan, rye or Canadian. If it's hot, sometimes a gin and tonic. Sometimes I order a Bushmills, neat, and if they don't have that I order a Pepsi or Coke, and that seems to confuse some people.

I need to find something I like with rum in it that isn't like a slushy, for those times that I'm in a place that seems to have 40 kinds of rum and nothing else.

Well, that is confusing…. Someone so persnickety that they will drink ONLY Bushmills, but are good with EITHER Pepsi or Coke.

Just sayin…

Consider a rum gimlet, that’ll confuse them too.

Well for breakfast I could go for a screwdriver, nothing fancy. After that I’m pretty flexible but rarely have a ‘mixed’ drink. Right now I’m on my ‘30 day no booze’ run that started Jan 2nd.

I tripped across this one in a Centurion lounge and it became my favorite for a while:

1 ounce bourbon.
1/2 ounce Domaine de Canton (ginger liquor).
ice
fill the glass with Broadbent Rainwater Madeira.

I was flying back in first class on British Airways a few years and the flight attendent asked if I was sure I didn't want a cocktail before dinner (we had been slamming back the Laurant Perier Grand Siecle pretty much during boarding). I told her that I wanted her to make the Moscow Mule they had on the menu with the Woodford Reserve rather than Vodka. She brought me my "Bourbon Mule." I told her it was a "Kentucky Mule" and now she knows how tomake one if anybody asks. She found it amusing. I have a slight variation on it at home:

1 1/2 bourbon
splash of lime juice.
splash of Domaine de Canton
ginger bitters
fill the glass with ginger beer

If you want to take your average gin and tonic up a notch, add a small amount of Saint-Germain (elderflower liquor) to the mix.

The cask strength version of this recipe is fabulous neat. Add one drop of water with an eyedropper after each sip to see how it changes.

As for favorite cocktail, I’m not a huge cocktail fan as most are too sweet. A Sazerac or Martini with Plymouth Navy Strength gin is about it.

What's become of POA? Are there no pilots who prefer a vodka martini, shaken, not stirred?

Sad. Very sad....

(Personally, I only have an occasional beer or glass of wine.)

Nah, I wish.!!

We had a state sponsorship to run at a track in Waco and Killeen. They gave us money to paint the car and trailer in Miller Lite colors and advertising, plus all the bent and dated beer cans out of the trucks, plus race uniform shirts and T-shirts to hand out to the fans on special race nights.

Also we had to have a display car to set up and different places that served alcohol. The motor in that car was missing the crank and pistons, but it looked good.!!
