Read all about it here.
First you stop calling them "Model Planes" and call them "drones", then you pass laws requiring they be registered, then you illegally close down the clubs.

Here's the deal: All they did was close down the fields of the guys who fly legally and responsibly.
The outlaws will fly anywhere they want.
Wow. Just like guns in Chicago. That worked so well.

It's been a while since I was into RCs, but this BS makes me just want to build a UAS, paint it flat black (because things are more scary when they are flat black) and just fly it in circles around OKC.

People just need to ignore this crap and live their life. When people are confronted with a government office which is acting like a whining child, just ignore it and it will start to behave again

So the rule breakers will continue to fly,and the people who live by the rules have been shut down .The govt surely knows what it's doing just look at drug control, and. Gun control,to say nothing about health care.

Uh......any particular reason you want to pick on OKC? :dunno:

It's just annoying how the FAA is going about this drone craze, hyping it up when there are more pressing matters they should attend to.

Haha. I'm so confused I thought we hated those things as they are a threat to our manly manned planes. I keep saying share the sky or you will have none of it. First they came for the registered drones and I said nothing because I didn't have a registered drone...
All the gov't you deserve suckers.

'long as we are talking about "drones" again...

So, like, I have this RC sailplane that I built back in the 1990's, flew a few times, spun it in, rebuilt and stored until a couple years ago. I took it to school and flew it with one of the students who had a lot of RC experience. I did OK, but he flew it into a tree. Got it back a couple days later, fixed it again, and now it hangs from the ceiling of the lab. The battery for the receiver got lost when it fell out of the tree, so until I get a battery (and untangle the high start) it can't be flown.

Do I need to register it?

When you outlaw radio-control, then only outlaws will have radio-control. .....Hmmmm

No, only if you fly it, or until they make it illegal to own one of those evil drones.

As I understand it, if you flew it before Dec 15th, 2015, you have until Feb to register it. If after Dec 15th, you must register it before you fly. I'm still trying to figure out how to register the damned thing since a noterized document needs to be sent in.
$27,500 civil fines and $250,000 and a year in jail criminal.
Damned silly over a toy, or what used to be a toy. Too much trouble for a hobby.
Next will be those damned golf balls, footballs, baseballs, and frizbees.

Although I think the FAA concern over "drones" is a bit of a knee jerk reaction and a ridiculous waste of resources, there is more to that article than the usual FAA drone panic over safety. Part of the issue is restricting access to National Defense Airspace by difficult to track objects and restricting the ability to do surveillance over that airspace. It looks like there are at least three TFRs on the books restricting flight in that area:
05/15/2014 4/9152 ZDC DC SECURITY WASHINGTON, DC, Sunday, June 15, 2014 UTC
01/10/2011 1/1155 ZDC DC SECURITY WASHINGTON, DC. EFFECTIVE 1101102040 UTC 11/18/2010 0/8326 ZDC USA SECURITY WASHINGTON DC, USA, Wednesday, December 01, 2010 UTC
The oldest has been there since at least 2010 and has the following excerpt: (Sorry for the caps it was pulled that way from the FAA website.)

Section D. ADDITIONS TO OPERATING IN THE DC FRZ 14 CFR SECTION 93.341. ALL OPERATIONS ARE PROHIBITED WITHIN THE FRZ (INCLUDING TRANSIT) UNLESS OUTLINED BELOW:

1. THE FOLLOWING OPERATIONS ARE NOT AUTHORIZED WITHIN THE DC FRZ: FLIGHT TRAINING, AEROBATIC FLIGHT, PRACTICE INSTRUMENT APPROACHES, GLIDER OPERATIONS, PARACHUTE OPERATIONS, ULTRA LIGHT, HANG GLIDING, BALLOON OPERATIONS, TETHERED BALLOONS, AGRICULTURE/CROP DUSTING, ANIMAL POPULATION CONTROL FLIGHT OPERATIONS, BANNER TOWING OPERATIONS, MAINTENANCE TEST FLIGHTS, MODEL AIRCRAFT OPERATIONS, MODEL ROCKETRY, FLOAT PLANE OPERATIONS, UNMANNED AIRCRAFT SYSTEMS (UAS) AND AIRCRAFT/HELICOPTERS OPERATING FROM A SHIP OR PRIVATE/CORPORATE YACHT.

Frizbees are just uncontrolled drones, so naturally, they should be registered and have their full ARROW tucked away in tiny compartments on board

:)

And those football things. Gosh, some of them can go more than 50 yards, gotta stop playing football in the DC area.

Yes, I'm sure there are Redskins fans who would say that happened a long time ago...

The restriction has been around since the first days of the TFR and then SFRA. Even law enforcement couldn't get permission to do a personal drone demo in the FRZ. Much more to that story....
